Submission + - The perfect notebook?

An anonymous reader writes: Found this site from a Slashdot post last week and spotted this review today. This is a 14" laptop that weighs only 1.5kg, had well over 8 hours battery life, can have a whole cup of water poured over it while its switched on and can have someone stand on it withou the screen breaking. The guy testing it even burried it in the snow! I know if I had 2 grand to spend, this is the machine I would go for. http://www.trustedreviews.com/notebooks/review/200 7/02/11/Panasonic-ToughBook-CF-Y5/p1

Submission + - Bill Gates wants Month of Windows Bugs?

David Wimsey writes: So I was reading this article ( http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16934083/site/newsweek / ) on msnbc.com where Steven Levy is interviewing Bill Gates about Vista. On page 2 the subject of the Apples Mac OS X comes up and Levy asks Gates to give his thoughts one the lack of postive reviews for Vista. Most his response is typical marketing BS, but on thing caught me: 'Nowadays, security guys break the Mac every single day. Every single day, they come out with a total exploit, your machine can be taken over totally. I dare anybody to do that once a month on the Windows machine.' So there you have it, your challenge to come up with a new Windows Vista bug once a day for a month... Can it be done? Probably. Right now? Probably not, people need more time to understand it before the exploits start rolling in. It would be interesting to see however.

Anonymous Coward writes: "The adult MMO, Red Light Center, which has been calling itself a virtual Amsterdam, has until now only featured the sex-part of the Red Light District. Today, I've learned that they are now adding in my favorite feature, the drugs! I haven't tried smoking this online pot yet, but I plan to :) Here's my story: http://www.drugpolicycentral.com/bot/article/sooto day5188.htm Here's the web site: http://www.redlightcenter.com/"

Submission + - Walmart Prevents Shopping With Firefox

mattfite writes: "I haven't yet seen this on /., but while looking for an artist's recording, I went to Walmart to try out the $0.88/song download. The link informs me that "We notice you're not using Internet Explorer. To continue, please visit this page using Internet Explorer 6.0 or later." Others have noticed this, too."

Submission + - Where to donate old hardware?

An anonymous reader writes: Like many Slashdotters, I have a surplus of old computers and parts that I (and family and friends) no longer have use for. Some of this junk is still useful, and although I'm too busy to sell it piecemeal on eBay, it'd be a shame to just throw it away. I'd prefer to just drop this stuff off, driver disks and instruction manuals included where applicable, at a major charity such as Good Will, AmVets, or the Salvation Army, but I suspect that they wouldn't be able to move it and would end up throwing it away. Anyone have any recommendations for the major charities or any suggestions for recycling options?

Submission + - PS2 still the highest selling game console

Van Cutter Romney writes: "The PlayStation 2 remained the highest selling game console over the holiday season with 1.4 million units sold. This was more than the XBOX 360 which sold 1.1 million units; the Nintendo Wii which sold 604,000 units and lastly the PS3 selling 491,000 units. The PS2's high sales volume is attributed to its recent price reduction from $149 to $129.

Among games, Gears of War for XBOX 360 was the top grosser followed by Guitar Hero 2 for the PS2."

Vendor AMD Announces New PC Case Standard

AMD is doing their part to spread small form-factor PCs with DTX . DTX is an open specification which will help vendors "make solutions that are 'smaller, quieter and desktop-friendly,' and also competes with Mini-ITX and its related form factors." "AMD said the standard would define just the minimum set of parameters necessary for interoperability, which would give vendors some room to create designs on their own. DTX should allo
