Submission + - Open Source is insecure says Disney (theregister.co.uk) 1

dgharmon writes: 'A Disney sitcom .. has slipped in an insult to open source software .. In the offending episode .. a squeaky-voiced, glasses-and-argyle-jumper-wearing kid who is clearly meant to be a nerd, is asked to fix another character's stricken computer. His diagnostic repartee sees him ask':

“Did you use open source code to save time, and the virus was hidden in it?”

Submission + - Man sues to have 'Google' declared a generic word (paidcontent.org)

vu1986 writes: ""Arizona man David Elliott wants a court to declare that “google” is a word that means “search on the internet” and to cancel Google’s trademarks for the term.

Elliott filed the complaint after Google won a ruling this month that forced him to hand over more than 750 website names such as “googlegaycruises.com” and “googledonaldtrump.com.” He claims he needs the names to start a business based on “commerce.. charity, and more.”""

Submission + - Israeli company grows medical marijuana which doesn't get you high (gizmag.com)

cylonlover writes: Situated in an undisclosed location near Tzfat, northern Israel, is a government-approved medical marijuana plantation which was founded in 2004 by a retired biology teacher. Named Tikun Olam, the plantation has created a new cannabis strain which contains very low traces of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main constituent in cannabis responsible for making people feel "stoned". By virtually eliminating THC in the new strain, Tikun Olam can now offer the drug's medicinal benefits to those patients who wish to keep a clear head.
It's funny. Laugh.

The film is about a couple of persons running a Call Center and handling a large assortiment of services. It is very hilarious.

Submission + - Paypal Remains Online Despite Explosion

feamsr00 writes: "An explosion at online payment processor Paypal caused property damage, but resulted in no injuries. The company's web site, one of the Internet's busiest e-commerce sites, remained online throughout the incident.

The explosion Tuesday night at Paypal's network operations center in San Jose shattered a window and forced the evacuation of 26 employees, according to local media reports. Law enforcement officials said they "have suspicions" about what may have caused the blast, but did not detail them. The investigation team included members of the local police bomb squad.

Submission + - Windows CE 6 Arrives With 100% Kernel Source

An anonymous reader writes: Microsoft officially launched the sixth generation of its flagship device software platform, today. Windows Embedded CE 6.0 boasts kernel architecture enhancements, new software stacks targeting three high-volume device categories, enhanced development tools, and, for the first time, 100 percent availability of Windows CE's kernel source code. Microsoft has added various enhancements that aim to make the OS more useful in next-generation devices that require features such as wired and wireless networking, advanced multimedia, access to vast memory resources, and greatly extended multitasking capabilities. Complete source code for the Windows CE kernel — some 3.9 million lines of code — is included in the downloadable Windows Embedded CE 6.0 OS package, whether the package is purchased or obtained via 180-day eval version. Clearly, Microsoft is positioning Windows CE to compete more aggressively with Linux in devices and embedded systems.

Submission + - Open Game Standards Petition

slackaddict writes: "We are Linux, BSD and MacOS users who love to game but constantly feel excluded when new releases come out only for the Windows platform. There are many of us who would gladly pay for your games if you would only release a game binary that we can use without Windows emulation products.

Submission + - Truthiness scarce at Viacom and YouTube this week

Jeff writes: "Using the Google API, I compiled a list of Comedy Central videos currently working and broken on YouTube which seem to contradict published reports that Viacom had issues only with entire episodes — not selected clips. The results seem to show that 46 percent of the top Daily Show clips in Google search results are missing and broken, 35 percent of the Colbert Report results and 23 percent of South Park results. In the wake of last week's DMCA takedown report, there's been a lot of confusion about what YouTube actually did and why. Stephen Colbert wants a cut of the $1.65 billion, I think YouTube users deserve a clearer explanation."

It would seem I wasnt fast enough to post this story, but I had a couple more links and useful info, so here it is:

Google Checkout has been released today. From their blog: We've heard time and again from users: "I find great stores through Google search, but every time I try to buy from an online store, I have to re-enter the same billing, shipping, and credit card information. There are too many steps. Why can't it be as fast as a Google search?" This motivated us to improve the online purchase process, and so today we're announcing Google Checkout, a checkout option that makes buying across the web fast and easy."
Google CheckOut includes single signon and badges on adwords of merchants that use Google CheckOut.
Features include using many addresses and many different cards for buyers and a "Payment Guarantee" against chargebacks for sellers.
AdWords users get $10 in sales processed for free for every $1 spent on AdWords.

For those of us text weary, there are videos for buyers and sellers
