Submission + - 1-Click Lawyers Want Their Beauty Sleep

theodp writes: "For a rate of $245-$465+ per hour (PDF), most Slashdotters would be chomping at the bit to start work at 6 a.m. Not so the lawyers at Fenwick & West, who are defending a threat against Amazon's 1-Click patent. Not only are Amazon's SF-based attorneys unwilling to travel to D.C. for the September 13th Appeal Hearing they requested, they've asked the USPTO to move the Hearing time from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (EST), lest they be forced to endure what a F&W Partner characterized as the 'undue hardship' of being ready at 6:00 a.m. (PST). Just another way Amazon's making good on CEO Jeff Bezos' pledge of making 'less work for the overworked Patent and Trademark Office.'"

Feed Engadget: Windows Home Server coming August 27th? (engadget.com)

C'mon, don't act surprised -- it's not like you didn't know Windows Home Server was on the home stretch. Nevertheless, if a date promimently listed on Microsoft's own Support Lifecycle website is to be believed, WHS will be "generaly available" on August 27, 2007, and it also lists the mainstream support retirement date as September 10, 2012. Of course, we wouldn't place our bets on pre-fabricated boxes to start shipping with the software on the 27th, but if you hunt hard enough, you're likely to find it in one channel or another. Circle the date folks, yet another new flavor of Windows is nearly here.

Feed Engadget: VIA readying one-watt Eden processor? (engadget.com)

Apparently, VIA is hoping to stretch the battery life of devices that sport its forthcoming ULV processor, as the chip manages to hum along at 500MHz yet only consumes one-watt of power. According to DigiTimes, the company announced the CPU during a press conference held yesterday, and also noted that it will "adopt the same VIA V4 bus and 21- x 21-millimeter nanoBGA2 packaging as other Eden models." Reportedly, several industrial PC makers "including Advantech have already adopted the new Eden ULV processor" and hopes to have products shipping to market later this month, and if this thing actually does sip power as its creator suggests, we've all ideas Advantech won't be the last firm placing an order.

Environmentalists Coming Around to Nuclear Power? 1092

Heywood J. Blaume writes "In a Washington Post editorial Patrick Moore, a founder of Greenpeace, now says he was wrong about opposing nuclear power 30 years ago. In the article he addresses common myths about nuclear power, and puts forth the position that nuclear power is the only feasible, affordable power source that can solve today's growing environmental and energy policy issues. From the article: 'Thirty years on, my views have changed, and the rest of the environmental movement needs to update its views, too, because nuclear energy may just be the energy source that can save our planet from another possible disaster: catastrophic climate change.'"
