Submission + - Joomla! 1.6 released (joomla.org) 1

Crudely_Indecent writes: Being an extension developer and a huge fan of Joomla! I was excited when Joomla! 1.6 was released last night. It's been a long wait. This new version brings a more flexible ACL, a content category depth enhancement (beyond the 2 levels offered in versions 1.0 and 1.5), and numerous API enhancements. FTA:

Rebuilt from the ground up in much of the application, this latest Joomla release will delight the casual site builder while helping small, medium, and enterprise businesses succeed in delivering web sites, intranets and applications to their respective markets.

Expect to start seeing sites running the newest version within a few days.

Submission + - University of Glasgow pioneers 1000 core processor (dailymail.co.uk) 2

Crudely_Indecent writes:

Scientists have created an ultra-fast computer chip which is 20 times faster than current desktop computers. Modern PCs have a processor with two, four or sometimes 16 cores to carry out tasks. But the central processing unit (CPU) developed by the researchers effectively had 1,000 cores on a single chip. The developments could usher in a new age of high-speed computing in the next few years for home users frustrated with slow-running systems.

1000 cores could make short work of the video encoding that I'm doing tonight. Lets hope they finish their research soon and put a price tag on this technology!

Submission + - Berners-Lee says Internet access is a right (telegraph.co.uk)

Crudely_Indecent writes:

Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the world wide web, has likened being forced offline to 'imprisonment' and attacked the Digital Economy Act's lack of 'due process'

According to Sir Tim, "freedom to access the internet could even be linked back to Magna Carta."

Submission + - Film maker attempts to tell the ugly truth

Crudely_Indecent writes: I've always known that there is something wrong with this country. It was hard to put my finger on. Perhaps it is the fact that we haven't been out of war since WWI. There is always some sort of conflict...some kind of assault on another country, or watching good people become outcasts in their own country because of an accusation of wrongdoing. Or, perhaps it was watching politicians get away with anything, while the rest of us had to watch our every move.

Aaron Russo has produced a film entitled "America - Freedom to Fascism" and I believe it adequately explains much of what I feared about my government. The officials elected to serve us have been serving a different master. If you have two hours to spare, hop over to google video and search for "America Freedom to Fascism Authorized version"

This powerful movie depicts our government as a corrupt and wholly owned entity. It doesn't use accusation to make this point, but the words of our elected officials and court record.

This video has reached the google top 100 overnight.
