Out of interest, what legacy apps are you so desperate to run on your phone? Up until a few years ago it wouldn't have even been feasible to run an x86 emulator fast enough to emulate anything newer than Win95, and even now I can't imagine what you'd want to run on a slow CPU emulator that there aren't already plenty of good native alternatives for. Well, maybe on an Intel based Android phone it might work ok.
On the other hand I can already access my full PC remotely on my phone via Vnc...

If you're browsing the web and following a bunch of links, you would have to long press the link to copy it, long press to paste it in the url bar, edit the url to add the S (this is mobile, so moving the cursor directly between the "p" and the ":" is non-trivial), and hit enter... for every link you follow.
And don't forget the waiting for it to fail and changing it back to HTTP:// when you get a server that doesn't have https.
Does anyone have any more info on what they're actually doing with these? Because it makes absolutely no sense to me. The Kinect's depth sensor has a maximum range of 6 meters, after that it's no better than a VGA webcam, and I'm pretty sure the things they'll want to identify are more than 6m away...
I'm surprised they're doing in-band signalling with out a band-pass filter, tho I guess maybe they don't count the GPS telemetry as sensitive or they want it archived with the video stream.

If you count GPU performance then the iPhone 5s has 76.8GFlops, but then consumer graphics cards were up to 1TFlop by 2009.
Will a Raspberry Pi running a minimal Debian (or other Linux) installation on an air-gapped network (it can even be just the Pi plugged directly into the host via a crossover cable) using an encrypted tunnel like SSH really be any less secure than a running a custom decryption service over some kind of custom USB bridge? (I assume you were thinking this, otherwise it's back to being networked anyway)
If your host PC is compromised than nothing is going to stop it requesting decrypted data from the Pi anyway.

Seriously we go through this every time one of these artificial gills is announced, you need too high a flow rate for a battery to realistically be able to provide power for, so you end up with a system that lasts for far less time than a simple air tank could provide.
Why not just use the RPi etc. as an encrypted NAS?
