Comment Shindlers List (Score 4, Interesting) 359

I regard Manning as a modern day Oskar_Schindler

Both have committed similar crimes (within the context of the authority of the day), yet on the other hand saw what they thought to be a great moral wrong, and dealt with it within their own personal means.

Interesting. I know first hand that detective instruction and manuals state that one should focus on those in an investigation that are overly compliant when searching for suspects.

It is common sense anyway? When you cold call a neigborhood, those that have nothing to hide, invariably people are hostile to anything beyond "have you seen anyone suspicious out on the street."

"Where were you on x date?" and things go rapidly downhill. Normal people get upset and start making a fuss.

Ii gets worse. He finshes a question with "it feels like it's(Android) going to be more of a dog's breakfast.”

He seems an interesting guy, obviously brilliant, but his broad view arrows miss their target by a long way.

For example, in the same interview, he questions the free cost of Android. Its easy to assume the reasons, and this was shored up with the "Castle and moat" scenario put forward a few days back. It should have been obvious to him.

Gosling also says he "hopes not to be pulled into the fray". Google needs to be careful with this back room boy.

From the video, all I could think of was a severe case of gorilla arm..

From wikipedia: "Designers of touch-menu systems failed to notice that humans are not designed to hold their arms in front of their faces making small motions. After more than a very few selections, the arm begins to feel sore, cramped, and oversized—the operator looks like a gorilla while using the touch screen "

If I was even 90% happy with my Galaxy S I would upgrade to the S II. And there would be another sale for Samsung.
I am not going to over dramatize to say I am grossly disappointed with the phone and I lose sleep, I dont. But I have lost confidence that buying a Samsung Galaxy Ssuccessor is prudent.

The GPS problems, the update problems, the jitteriness just do not inspire confidence. I am cautious now. Thats spells bad news for me as a repeat customer for Samsung.. The one saving grace for the Galaxy S is the fantastic camera and video

The day a competitor comes out that matches the camera resolution, video frame rate, and picture quality, is the day my Galaxy S goes on Ebay.

Friggin' boards and share holders. I hate them. I am biased obviously. I am in the trenches, so they probably look at me with equal distain.

This is the generic problem, boards and shareholders poke their governance noses in, not trusting senior operational to make the best decisions. Steve Jobs, and I suspect those around him, would go to their graves doing the best for Apples long term goals.

Jobs himself will be well aware of consequences of his absence but I am guessing is managing the fact his return is best. I am not a Jobs fanboy, but shareholder boards fuck off and count pennies somewhere else.

Back when shooter titles were released at the rate of one per year(is it 365 per year now?), I used to get up about 3am to try to catch the news hot off the press. Sites like Voodoo extreme and bluesnews were my favorites. And they updated often in the early hours for breakfast reading.

Billy "Wicked" Wilson(voodoo extreme) was often up, and sometimes I'd fire him an email to which he replied usually. I guesstimate I got up 30 times for DN4 updates.

I followed intently the news when they changed from the Quake 2 engine to Unreal in 1998. They had been in development(supposedly) with Q2 for 2 years. The unreal announcement was the death knell for me. The disruption to the workflow could not support a valid business case?
