Journal Journal: Bigger Comment Box PLEASE!!! 1

Please oh pllleeeeaaassseee,
Expand the comment box!
This will fix the wrap around bug,
(You know, the one that inserts the dam space at the right side of the box limit?), when cutting and pasting long URL links AND stop the torture of creating posts in a tiny window.
Would you want to work on a desk 3" x 6"?
Its mental thumb screws!

It can't be that hard to code. Can it?

Journal Journal: I wish I could Moderate and Participate.

Ok so this is just a request stuffed in a bottle and sent floating into a sea of great expanse.

I like to moderate.
But I also like to participate.
Thats how I successfully moderate.

Although I do undertand conflict of interest.
There are topics and there are threads.
I'd like to have our /. moderation rules restricted to just threads.
Meaning I can still moderate inside a topic and participate. Although, if I moderate a thread, it becomes subject to roll back of moderation points and *not* the whole topic.

Journal Journal: Search Engine Difficiencies

Trying to find out WHO is "Stanley J Randall"

Searches in all major search engines show only his quotes.
I've spent hours trying to sift through the results to come up with nothing!

Ok lets try biography.com
Nope, NOTHING.

While here, lets try "Rob Malda" on biography.com
Hmmmmmm.
Charlie Sheen! All right I'm on the trail of CmdrTaco now!!!

Conclusion:
The Internet certainly is lacking in results these days.

Journal Journal: Reading Slashdot and Moderating

Ok, so now I can moderate.

But what the heck is this lovely wasteland of thought?

Who could read just one story, study it, then return to read all the posts and make judgement?

And as I sit here amounst computer screens and wirring fans, it dawns on me.

Journal Journal: xTLD? Whats the future of Top Level Domains?

TLD, (Top Level Domain)

ccTLD (country code)
gTLDs (generic) (.com, .edu, .gov, .int, .mil, .net, and .org)
- sTLD (sponsored) (.museum, .areo, .coop
- uTLD (unsponsored) (.biz, .info, .name, and .pro)
specialTLD .arpa

The value of the domain name is truly incredible. The internet domain name business.com was sold by Marc Ostrofsky of Texas, USA, on December 1, 1999 for US $7.5 million. In January of 2000, loans.com domain name was sold for $3 million. Recently, in December of 2003, Rick Schwartz sold his domain name men.com for $1.3 million. Some of the people would never sell their names .name goes second level like .com 11:30AM EST on 14 January 2004

ICANN www.icann.org "ICANN's role is very limited," ya right!
To propose a new TLD :
$45,000-50,000 which is non-refundable regardless of outcome.
Come on, that's just a ridiculous money grabbing bureaucracy!

Whois database is a great SPAM engine.

Cyber squatting .pro - behind on its second level offering
- Third level domains offered by providing only subdomain names like .law.pro .tv - A Verisign Company? www.tv
- Example of squat, 3.tv $10,000/year
- Suppose to be country code for Tuvalu http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/tv.html

Browser Behavior
-Name without TLD defaults
  IE 6.0.26 - defaults to <name>.com
Mozilla 1.0.2 - Netscape search
Konqueror 3.1.4 - Google search

-Name not registered
IE 6.0.26 - Yeah.com
Mozilla 1.0.2 - Alert
Konqueror 3.1.4 - Unknown host error
<br>
Now that I look back on this post from long ago, it hits me like a hammer that this stuff actually slowing the rollout of other names. Firefox should be interesting. Oh and if you plan on a domain transfer, its work, with money grabbing all along the way. $300 from Domainsatcost to transfer a name in redemption, when delays were the fault of the organization. No phone answering possible at any time of the day. Toll Free lines are none existant, so its stressful to watch your long distance phone charge climb into the a couple of hours of waiting with no response!
Finally the fax works, but you need 5-20 sheets of real big type to get a response.
WARNING: This will cause you to bang your head aimlessly against the wall.
