Submission + - HP To Make More TouchPads?! (computerworld.com)

CWmike writes: "Hewlett-Packard said it will make more TouchPads in response to 'stunning' demand following the company's decision to discontinue the tablets. 'Despite announcing an end to manufacturing webOS hardware, we have decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand,' Mark Budgell, an HP spokesman, wrote in a blog post. The site appears to be overloaded and is currently unavailable, but the post has been reposted elsewhere online. The newly manufactured tablets will go on sale in a few weeks. He said a limited number would be made but couldn't say exactly how many. We can't promise we'll have enough for everyone, he wrote. As Ron Miller notes, HP continues to send out mixed messages about its plans for TouchPad and webOS, making its very public announcement to ax them sound even more foolish."

Submission + - NASA Developing Nuclear-Powered Stirling Engine

adeelarshad82 writes: Just a week after NASA announced its plans to feed HD video from Mars, the agency is now working on a way to power such unmanned devices. The solution involves fitting a nuclear power generator on planetary outposts to power a stirling engine. The reason why a stirling engine is suitable is because it is highly efficient, a closed system meaning the gas is reused for the life of the engine, and it can work with just about any heat source. The final unit is expected to be the same size as a typical suitcase and is capable of providing 40 kilowatts of electrical energy for eight years.
