Comment All The best! (Score 0) 133

I installed cyanogenmod on my Samsung Galaxy S3 and I've been pleasantly surprised by the changes (go thorough the screenshots that I've posted - they are all of my phone running CM 10.2) . The phone performs better in every way ( my only gripe is that HDR mode is missing from the camera )
The installation might be a bit tricky ( since Google removed CynaogenMod installer from the Play Store ) . I downloaded the installer from the CM Site , ran the app, followed the instructions and then it installed CM 10.2 ( Android 4.3 ) on my GS3.
I hope with additional funding, CM can come pre-loaded on more devices - a lot of Android devices are being held back by their software. ( cartoonish TouchWiz and LG's even-more-cartoony skins are at the forefront here ). Not only is it aesthetically pleasing, it is more secure, gives more choices to the user and generally makes your phone a better phone.
I hope CM gets more funding and does a stellar job - there is not reason it shouldn't - CM team have already been doing a stellar job :)

As a former BlackBerry user and a current Android user - I can say with certainity that ActiveSync on Android works. BlackBerry touts it's security but Androd ( especially after ICS ) supports a lot of those 'enterprise' features like remote wipe as well. I recently switched to an Andriod phone. At work we've moved to office365.com for our email needs. As you might be aware the email is offered via outlook.office365.com - which is basically a hosted Exchange server Since we're BYOD, when I setup my Android phone for Exchange ( http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/office365-suite-help/set-up-email-on-an-android-phone-or-tablet-HA102823196.aspx ) - the Mail app ( your standard Android "Email" application ) - asked me for permissions - whether I would allow it to remotely wipe my phone the Exchange server wanted it to These features were available only on Blackberry before ActiveSync came to Android ( and I believe the same goes for iOS as well ) - I think this is why BYOD works these days and provides some security for corporate data on privately-owned handsets - a win-win for all - other than BlackBerry, of course.

subdermal != foolproof. As has been deomnstrated by CCC now. In fact, it has been repeatedly demonstrated ( by CCC and others ) that we should stop relying on fingerprints ti uniquely identfy an individual. If we do continue to do this - we only make our own identity more vulnerable to theft.

I agree with what you wrote - but Russia is not Switzerland.

I'm pretty sure they will not tell Snowden - "You can stay here as long as you want as a Guest of the State - and we will not ask you any questions about the NSA."

They have an intel source on their soil - and they will get information out him, whether Snowden wants to or not. If Snowden is unwilling to hand over American secrets to the Russians, It is not too much to assume that the FSB or the SVR ( or both ) will Snowden's rooms and record everything he says (if they have not done this already )

They will do this till they are sure he has nothing more to offer.

And he probably will have a lot to offer as no info is useless info in the intel world. especially when your intel source was an NSA sysadmin with access to tons of classified documents.

I wish I had mod points, Dear AC sir. I consider myself a pragmatic developer and I'm not interested in starting an MS vs Linux vs .... war. I am also a full time freelancer and I currently work on Ruby on Rails. When my client suggested that we 'port' our app to .Net ( whatever that means ) - I was appalled at the investment I need to put in to get my dev environment going.

I am happy developing my webapps on Rails and Django and I see it remaining so for the foreseeable future. ( I am also keeping an eye out for Google Go ). But I am *not* going to use a programming framework tied so closely to an IDE.

Disclaimer: I'm an atheist. I'm going to sound like an atheist ( because I'm going to attack Scientology ) - But please do understand the broader message.

And the message is very simple.

Any organization/group which sells bullshit will be criticized. The only way for the organization to grow is to continue selling bullshit. The organization cannot sell bullshit if sane people criticize it. Or put sane arguments against it. Thus the only way for this organization to survive is to do one of the three below:

- Supress opposition to their bullshit to the extent possible ( and they can go to quite an extent - especially in the case of totalitarian religions or totalitarian governments )
- Taint the person criticising the organization
- Both of the above.

Religion has been guilty of this all along.

So have all totalitarian governments

There is nothing to be surprised about this. There is only one thing to be sad about - that the members/followers of such organizations cannot 'see' the bullshit they are being sold.
