AC is great for long distance and certain applications. DC is great locally. The bridge rectifier should be between the grid & the home battery, not between the home battery and the devices it is recharging and/or powering.

The exception to this are high power home applications: Stove, Oven, Microwave, Toaster, Fridge, Dryer, Washing Machine, Dishwasher. The battery charger can be on the same circuit set.

Note that TV is NOT on this list. All video screens can be low power these days. All lighting can be low power. There is no reason why this can't be a simple 5V, 4A circuit with USB compatible plugs, several to a room.

Easy. You call up the US vendor that sold China their Great Firewall and order another one. This one will be cheap, considering the UK's population is a fraction that of China.

Already done: TalkTalk (arguably the UK's worst ISP in general, as well as being the first to jump on the government's bandwagon) spent many millions of pounds (described in a related court case as "an eight figure sum") importing a horribly flawed censorship system from Huawei, which is one of the Chinese manufacturers of part of the Great Firewall.

These trends are not new. The sole reason there is a Republican majority in the House of Representatives is the massive gerrymandering that took place in the last decades. Democrats have consistently won the "popular" vote for the house, but districts are tactically set to favor Republicans almost across the board.

The districts are this way because while Millennials do indeed skew heavily liberal/Democrat/progressive, they tend to NOT get involved in state and local politics. Republican governors and state legislatures used the last gasps of the dying generation to secure powerful gerrymandered districts ensuring the GOP holds onto the house, at least until the next census.

An interesting side effect, however, is that these artificial superdistricts are such that the Republican is practically guaranteed to win it in the general election. Thus, far-right tea party nonsense candidates can appeal to their local base without much fear of throwing the actual election over to the Democrats. The safer these districts are for Republicans, the further right, racist, sexist, and old they'll skew for the foreseeable future.

Until young people get active in local and state politics, then it literally is a game of just waiting for the current old set in those places to die of old age.

I fully comprehend the positive concept behind libertarian thinking, even if I have become almost as disillusioned with liberty as I am with Marxism.

The one point that libertarians and distributists agree on is that more competition is always good; Net Neutrality, by forcing an even playing field for all bits/second, fosters a truly free market in cyberspace where the cost of participation is and should be low. If we're going to live in a capitalistic society, the least we can do is remove barriers to entry into estate ownership, so that all may at least have the dream of becoming an owner someday. Cyberspace offers us the opportunity to expand that a huge amount, even the children's game Minecraft has a space that if mapped onto the real world, would fill several planets.

Karl Marx wanted to promote homosexuality as an "alternate lifestyle choice" for one reason and one reason only: He wanted to undermine and destroy the Catholic Church, which he saw as the only real obstacle to building his utopian socialist hell-hole. He wanted, as did / do Mussolini, Hitler, Stalin, Roosevelt, Wilson, Obama, Clinton -- people using their religious fervor in pursuit of the State, not in pursuit of heaven.

Look at the increasing number of sola scriptura Protestant churches that are suddenly throwing out huge chunks of that scripture to support gay marriage.

And they say "Oh, but Jesus didn't say anything about it" -- only he did. He said he wasn't there to change one letter of the law. He wasn't there to change what is moral and is not moral.

And now, one by one, Protestant Churches fall away and now many of them shouldn't even call themselves Churches... they should call themselves Sunday Morning Coffee and Terrible "Praise" Band shows.

I visited a Protestant Church at the request of a friend... it was a Southern Baptist church.

Aside from the fact that it was lily-white (my catholic church is very, very diverse) and conformity was expected / required... it was weird.

Despite being white, I was looked at with suspicion because *gasp* HE HAS LONG HAIR! ZOMG!!!

So then the service started. They had a crappy "praise" band where each dork they had warbling (I wouldn't quite call it signing) all did this same weird "look to heaven" head shake thing before they started singing. And the crowd put down their coffee, pretended to smile, and praised them some Jesus. Only I didn't see Him there.

Then, the Pastor got up and said his sermon. It was about the ABC's of faith. Lesson 1: God is in control.

Ignoring the deeper and important themes of free will, this sermon was as childish and lacking substance as the crowd's suspicion of the long haired dude.

Sadly, THAT is what mainline Protestantism has become. Church is just a thing, a club people want to feel like they belong to, and they choose a church based on if they like the free coffee or is they like the praise band, and I'm not going to the Grace Faith Fellowship because their praise band isn't hip enough, instead I'm going to go to Faith Grace Fellowship where the coffee is really good and they have free creamer and it's televised and so I'll be on TV and I can use my connections to further my business or my career and Jesus? The guy that prunes the garden with Jose? OH THAT JESUS. Yeah, he's great! Like a peaceful hippie or Ghandhi or something.

And people wonder why I state that the Great Apostasy has begun.

Don't blame the tool, blame the user. A chainsaw is dangerous, but if I'm clearing brush or cutting tree limbs blown down by a storm, it's the best tool for that job. If I cut off my foot with it, is it the chainsaw's fault?

You forget rape. And, I sadly suspect, Catholic Priests were and are affected by this. Both in recruitment and retention, as well as ending up in jail.
