Yup. The problem here is not that the people do not have a means to control their government it is that the vast majority of them do not give a shit. We have become a nation of people that will wait till the cops arrive while being bludgeoned to death. We will vote which ever party promises us the most free stuff. We value the illusion of safety over freedom. the news anchor is our one true God.

We have exactly the government we deserve.

SOME people in this country have exactly the government they deserve. Those of us who faithfully follow the process, campaign for better ideas, and get nowhere because we're surrounded by masses of apathetic, incompetent idiots do not have the government we deserve. Significant power and authority returning to the individual states would help with that (not solve it by any means, but help).

Golf, for me, isn't so much about the act of playing the game, but who I'm playing it with.

If you aren't having a good time, try different golfing partners. Don't take it so seriously.

And use a bright fucking orange ball that is way easier to find in the weeds, because you can't miss it in the sky while it's flying. That's a great way to knock some strokes off the score, and time off the clock.

Gays are not singled out.

Gay sex is not singled out. There is no cherry picking involved. The root of all sexual teaching is the same: non-procreative sex acts are sinful.

It is a sin for a straight couple to have sex before they are married. Are we bigoted against the unmarried?

It is a sin for a married straight couple to use contraception. Are we bigoted against married couples?

It is a sin to masturbate. Are we bigoted against masturbators?

It is a sin to have sex outside of your marriage. Are we bigoted against adulterers?

It is a sin to have gay sex. Are we bigoted against those who harbor attractions to those of the same sex?

They are not singled out. The same rules apply to everybody.

Personally I self-insure everything for which there isn't a legal necessity to have insurance. I don't see any point in paying someone else to take a risk when I can do it myself.

Yes. About the only time insurance makes financial sense is when the outcome would be ruinous otherwise. This obviously excludes, for example, extended warranties. Whoever came up with that one is probably in the Retail Sales Hall of Fame.

L.A. Science Teacher Suspended Over Student Science Fair Projects 253

An anonymous reader writes "A high school science teacher at Grand Arts High School in Los Angeles was suspended from the classroom in February, after two of his science fair students turned in projects deemed dangerous by the administrators. "One project was a marshmallow shooter — which uses air pressure to launch projectiles. The other was an AA battery-powered coil gun — which uses electromagnetism to launch small objects. Similar projects have been honored in past LA County Science Fairs and even demonstrated at the White House."
