Submission + - Help Nmap by filling out the SecTools.org survey! (nmap.org)

An anonymous reader writes: Help Nmap and the security world in general by filling out the 2010 SecTools.org survey! Results from this survey help the security community discover new tools, improve old ones, and gives everyone a chance to have their say. Besides being a great venue to learn about lesser known tools, this survey has lead to many of the advanced Nmap features including the Nmap Scripting Engine (which currently has well over 100 user-contributed scripts), Ndiff for comparing scans, the Zenmap interface, and, my personal favourite, despite a lack of votes, a script to check the availability of California vanity plates. With the Summer of Code projects coming up fast, this is your chance to shape Nmap's future!

Comment New Interface, but Feature Lacking (Score 1) 401

The new interface will have pros and cons but what is really needed are more image editing/management features. There is still no IPTC and EXIF support viewing editing and if I remember IPTC data is actually stripped out. 8 Bit Color Support is too low and CMYK is a must i know these will come with future GEGL improvements, but still. None of these are on the road map for 2.8. I don't even do that much photo work and have hit the wall so I am sure there are others out there that do much more than I that have even bigger feature needs.

I would have to agree with the other poster that suggested SolarWinds Orion network monitor. You can monitor network swithes, each port, servers, apps on the server, other devices with SNMP strings, things that don't support that.... you can import multiple maps etc. At our site in Orion we have a US Map, state map, then campus maps for a few sites. then building maps then to server room. Custom views and alters. My login to orion shows different stuff then our telecom person's login. and no i don't work for them http://www.solarwinds.com/

Nice to see this out. However I am disappointed that PDF import even when it is ready will only be added as an extension. It should be part of the core. I was also hoping for a few more big features. Even the improved Crop feature in Draw/Impress was a feature that a developer did as a side job in is free time http://blogs.sun.com/GullFOSS/entry/improved_picture_cropping_for_draw Will 3.0 include some of the features that were forked off with Go-OO http://go-oo.org/ ? ie: -SVG support - So we can import Inkscape documents ... remember SVG is a standard also. -MS-Works import - This would be nice as many home users use this as it cost less then MS Office -Improved EMF rendering - I have not done this in a while but EMF quality was poor -WordPerfect Graphics import -GStreamer integration -Rich fields support - some of the features OOo people said they would not support. -Other Go-oo features I am not trying to start a turf war, but there are some nice features. I would think that there might be time to integrate some of existing code i.e. Works support etc into OOo before 3.0 is final. AS the other features have been sitting in Go-oo they might be considered stable enough to port back to OOo at this beta stage.
