Submission + - Tesla's Model S will add self-driving 'autopilot' mode in three months (theverge.com)

pitchpipe writes:

Tesla's preparing a software update that will bring powerful auto-steering functionality to its Model S fleet ... CEO Elon Musk revealed that Tesla will ship a software update "in about three months" that will turn on auto-steering, or "autopilot" as Musk often refers to it. "We can basically go between San Francisco and Seattle without the driver doing anything," Musk said of the autonomous system that Tesla has developed. For now, you'll only be able to engage auto-steering on highways.

This is sort of like lane assist on steroids.

I don't fucking get it: you believe that global warming is happening, yet you reject the theory that scientists have put forth to explain the phenomenon. A theory well grounded in science, that makes predictions that we see coming true every day, and that the vast majority of experts actually working in the field subscribe to. A phenomenon for which no other plausible (at this juncture) theory has been put forth.

Do you ever feel the need to examine why you so strongly want to disbelieve the theory?

Oh! There was a need ... there was a terrible need.

An Uruguay Syndrom[e] is very similar to Collins' Syndrome, except that it is much bigger and involves radiation from uranium fission instead of Cesium/Deuterium. Think of it as an Atlantis Complex times 100.

There, was that so hard?

Nintendo To Announce Virtual Boy 2 68

SlappingOysters writes Nintendo has officially unveiled the development of its next home console, codenamed the NX. This article at finder puts forward the case that Nintendo will be stepping back into the virtual realty game with a follow-up to its ill-fated 1995 peripheral, the Virtual Boy. It would be going head-to-head with the Vive, Project Morpheus and the much-rumoured, not yet announced, Microsoft VR unit.

Seriously, is there any doubt that a computer can easily defeat a human at ___________ that involves _____________?

Of course not. Whenever a computer defeats a human easily, of course it isn't true AI. Computers were better at that all along. Leave that to computers so that humans can do the truly human work.

There's so much work to do that I doubt our tools will ever "displace" us.

I find it so strange when otherwise seemingly intelligent people use the word 'never' regarding artificial intelligence. If our brains operate according to the known laws of the universe, then why would you suppose that the piece of meat between our ears could never be improved upon. Really?! Never?
