Submission + - IMAX Tries To Censor Arstechnica over SteamVR Comparison

Cutting_Crew writes: From the article:

"Last week, Ars published a story about the newest version of SteamVR, a virtual reality system made by Valve Software. The piece includes interviews with game designers praising the new system as well as writer Sam Machkovech's own experience using SteamVR at Valve's office in Bellevue, Washington. On June 16, Ars Technica was contacted by IMAX Corporation. The company said our story required a retraction because it included a brief reference to IMAX—included without IMAX's permission. "Any unauthorized use of our trademark is expressly forbidden"

If you look at the letter from the lawyer you will notice that it mentioned trademark and seems to think that merely using the name "IMAX" is somehow an infringement of that trademark. It sounds like someone is a little too scared of Valve. Apparently, they(IMAX) has never heard of or experienced the Streisand Effect. Here is a quick link to the PDF sent by the 'lawyer'.

Comment Re:Apple Developer Program now all inclusive (Score 4, Informative) 415

uhh. the license provides you with pre-releases of the updates (like as of now) for mac osx and ios before the public release so your apps will work with any updates changes to any of the devices mentioned in the keynote. it also allows you to have access to all of the sessions if you werent able to make it to WWDC. If you are able to make it (you cant go unless you arent a developer, unless you get a special invite) you get one on one time with developers in the session labs to look over your code, help with bugs and in other technical help you might have. You also get the developer videos as well as access to the apple developer forums.

You also get two technical support incidents with actual apple engineers that will go through your code, look at bugs with you, offer suggestions/help.feedback/ and help you fix your problem. Obviously this would be something worthwhile in case you've exhausted all avenues of technical support from the web or from other colleagues.

It also includes the ability to sell your apps on the apple store. Sure, you could do it but how are you going to get the visibility you need to get your app noticed if it is not in the app store? How are you going to set up the payment system/networking/server maintenance/etc/etc so that you accept all major credit cards and get all that secure for people to buy your app? (assuming you have enough traffic to even warrant such as set up)

Submission + - Kung Fury (80's Movie Themed Kickstarter project) released on YouTube

Cutting_Crew writes: Kung Fury was a Kickstarter Project back in late 2013 that was "...an over-the-top action comedy written and directed by David Sandberg. The movie features: arcade-robots, dinosaurs, nazis, vikings, norse gods, mutants and a super kung fu-cop called Kung Fury, all wrapped up in an 80s style action packed adventure."

Although it didn't raise the $1 Million for a full feature film, it raised $650,000 over the initial $200,000 goal and it was finally released on May 28th on Youtube as a 30 minute short feature film. It was created using mainly a green screen for all the fighting/backdrops/special effects in the Swedish basement of the Director and Writer David Sanberg . This was made by some of the same guys behind Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon and by 80's synth musicians such as Mitch Murder(Johan Bengtsson).

There was also a music video made for the movie and who wouldn't be a better front man for the video than the hoffman hoff David Hasselhoff . Seriously, its a good video, in a nostalgic, scary, awfully awesome cheesy way. How can you go wrong with Hoff mixed in with dinosaurs, a NES powerglove a hot barbarian chick and a computer hacker playing a keyboard that generates a hot neon pink pulse wave coming out the top? The video also gives a small nudge to the Texas Instruments Speak & Math when the hacker presses the keyboard with the powerglove.

The movie also does the justice of the 80's. Action, Deloreans, Lambos, Hot fighter chicks, Computer hacking, neon lights, arcade machines and cool synth music. It even incorporates distortions in the movie (and the music video) intentionally to give the effect of watching it on VHS. What other 80's references did you pick up on?

which currently offer 35/60/90/150/300 mbps internet tiers to normal folk and in some local communities like the ones in the Tampa area they signed exclusive deals to upcoming and new subdivisions/HOAs to offer 1 Gbps speeds as part of their lure to get people to move in. So if Charter buys them out what happens to the 1 Gbps deal that the original builder/HOA/CDD signed?? I bet that'll piss 'em off if Charter says, "sorry!!"

Comment I use on average about 70kwh per day. (Score 1) 317

All electric, hot water heater, a/c. Try to keep the temp on the a/c around 73-75 F but most of the time its on, even in 'winter' months here in Central Florida.

I don;t know how others fare and obviously your mileage may vary due to occupancy, where you live, if you stay at home or not etc. We are currently in a 2,000 sq ft , 4 bed , 2 bath house.

Using my usage of about 2,000 kwh per month, I would have to figure out how much solar/battery usage I would need for that type of usage and when I would break even.
