Comment NHL likely to follow new tech (Score 2, Interesting) 169

I'm glad to see it. A few years back the NHL started introducing "special effects" like creating a sort of "halo" around the puck to easily spot it behind the boards or the red trail when the puck broke a certain speed. I suppose if they didn't change with the times they'd still play without helmets and have chain-link instead of Plexiglas...

Submission + - Scientist: Feds are blocking hydrogen fuel

Lucas123 writes: "A Purdue University engineer and National Medal of Technology winner says the federal government is blocking development of a new method of creating hydrogen fuel as a clean energy alternative to gasoline. The professor is claiming the government won't fund the research of a process already proven to work. '"Egos" at the U.S. Department of Energy, a key funding source for energy research, "are holding up the revolution,"' Professor Jerry Woodall said. The method uses an aluminum alloy to extract hydrogen from water — a process that he thinks could replace gasoline as well as its pollutants and emissions tied to global warming. The hydrogen is generated on demand, so you only produce as much as you need when you need it.'"

Submission + - Ryan Gordon on the future of Games on Linux

jvm writes: "In a Q&A with LinuxGames, Ryan "icculus" Gordon lays out some brutal Linux gaming truths along with a few good reasons for hope. He rates the importance of certain technologies and companies on a scale of 0 to 10 (OpenGL is a 10, WINE and Transgaming a 2) and then goes on to explain each rating in detail. From which company presents the real threat to Linux adoption to why 2008 is likely to be a big year for Linux gaming, Ryan has the answers."

Journal Journal: less ITness colors

The IT section is buttugly. It hurts me eyes. Not enough contrast (the ...light yellow blends in with the white) seems to be part of the problem.

I like avoid links that have it.slashdot.org in them now.

That is all. This is nothing new. It's just finally started pissing me off enough to post about it.

Journal Journal: open proxy fools 1

Slashdot checks to see if you are using an open proxy when you try to post, and I fooled it into thinking I was running an open proxy (without knowing what I was doing at the time).

I've sent an email to CowboyNeal (when you post a comment, it says to email any problems to him). The contents of it follow (word wrapped and some slight x-ing out):
