Comment Re:Bandwidth can be hogged - I've seen it (Score 1) 497

I like the idea of allowing people to customize their package to their needs and I think it might be the key to this whole telecom mess. One one side telcos might perceive some people as abusing their system and on the other side customers feel telcos are punishing or at least threatening them without reason...

I think you pointed-out the real problem. The telcos want you to pay for the 70Mbps line, but don't want you to use it. If you cannot support a users doing 70Mbps, don't sell 70Mbps. I know that building an infrastructure based on the assumption that all users will use maximum bandwidth would be costly, but then adapt your marketting practices; sell lower sustained speed and put a "speed on demand" service that is easy to use so when you want/need to download the new 8GB PS3 game you can play before the next week. Otherwise you can always have a maximum sustained bandwidth based on high/low period of the day, but this needs to be clear.

No matter the technology used, polarized glasses or shutter glasses, you still need to render 2 distinct images at full resolution, one for each eye, and each need to be at least 30FPS ... talking about that, I wonder how much of a motion sickness you get if the image lags differently on each eye :P.

Exactly my point of view to. Intelligence is simply a measure of raw power, like MFLOPS (all the D&D geek references were already posted so I had to find another one). It simply state that your brain is able to do some basic tasks like pattern recognition and similar stuff. You need much more to be "smart", you need to be able to filter the basic information you found your "processing" on, you need to analyze the outputs to see if they actually make sense, you need to make sure you factored in all the necessary variables. To me, "smart" is probably more of a methodology than an actual quality; intelligent people will only be smart faster :P.

I'm among the few (1-5%) who suffer from amblyopia, this, among other things, mean that stereoscopic 3D has no real effect on me. On another thought I think the way they decided to go is a rip-off. First, I think Sony plans on delivering 3D only on top-of-the-line 240Hz TVs, when 120Hz is enough (ok, not ideal, but who cares). Second, they probably could have introduced a 3D upgrade kits for existing TVs instead of something completely new; such kits are already available for PC for ~200$.

I never considered an occasional depression a disorder and this tends to prove it; depression would just be a state of mind to help you solve the problem that caused the state of mind in the first place. To me people that are always depresses or even always happy are probably the ones suffering from a disorder.

Pidgin crashed on me maybe twice in the last year. I actually switched from Trillian to Pidgin and found Pidgin much better. The only big downside I found with Pidgin is the MSN file transfer support. Then again, if it was such a problem for me, I would just contribute to the project to fix that :P.
