No, it's like hacking US military computers from the UK and the US government bitching for fucking years to extradite you. See also: Gary McKinnon.

Except the UAE didn't even bother to extradite him, they arrested him in the UAE for publishing statements in the UAE - where he was when he published them doesn't alter fact that he published in the UAE. His mistake was going back there. Or maybe going there in the first place.

So no, it's nothing like going to Utah and admiring the scenery.

Given the depth of surveillance performed by CSEC and the NSA, I think it's been *proven* that telcos could *easily* detect and block the sources of robo-calls, too.

My guess is the robo-call companies pay them big bucks to harass everyone, so the telcos have no motivation to do shit about the problem.

I disagree. If they have a proper warrant for a search, you are compelled to assist with that search if necessary.

If the object being searched is a safe, you are compelled to unlock it. The same should apply to a phone.

That said, border services does not get warrants for a search. The worst they should be able to do is seize it until they can get a warrant to search the device, and be forced to return it unharmed if they cannot do so.

I was going to say people aren't that stupid.

But then I remembered that old episode of The Wire where they stick a kid's hand on a copier machine, ask him questions like it's a lie detector, and after he answers, a detective presses the copy button and "LIE" on a piece of paper comes out. The kid actually fell for it when the detectives structured the questions to show he was lying and he broke down and revealed the truth of the incident and gave them their lead.

Found it, apparently based on real life Baltimore PD interrogation techniques:

So I guess they could make this new CSI Cyber even 10x more stupid, and a few months later you'd probably start hearing from people something like...

the NSA can use coffee cups to playback conversations from half an hour ago because of reverberating echoes still trapped inside the cup.

(I just made that up, CSI writing team: give me attribution please.)

But other than that, wonderful. New Order was a fantastic game. Such a strong showing for a first game from a studio. It isn't often you can have a game that is good, silly fun where you do crazy shit like dual wield assault rifles, and yet still have a solid story that makes you care. Good mechanics, good levels, good story, good visuals, good setting, just well done all around.

Only thing I would ding it on is the engine choice. iD Tech 5 just isn't very good compared to Unreal Engine, Cryengine or Frostbite. Even on my system with a XP941 SSD I can get some texture pop-in when I move the camera fast and while the visuals are good from a distance, they break down close up. I understand the choice, Bethesda owns the engine so it makes sense to use it, but I can't help but think it would look more impressive in a better engine.

Ah, and *of course* no one could ever survive without shopping online. And no one could ever survive with being detached from the intarweeb while they *are* out shopping. And walking a block and a half to the bank machine or just skipping that step entirely and using a debit card is *absolutely* out of the question.

Your telco gives you the phone for free -- there is no extra charge padded on to your monthly bill. They're just really, really generous that way.

And everybody's existing phone already has the NFC support needed to act as a payment system, so no one needs to upgrade, right?

Go ahead and try to get a free credit card after you've had to declare a bankruptcy. I dare ya'.

But hey, all of us in situations like being on disability where $20 makes or breaks the month can clearly afford to toss $50-75/year in credit card membership fees out the window.

Heck, in your world, people like me don't even actually exist. Only dinosaurs are poor.
