I'm going to map my drive to work, by driving it a few dozen times. Then the car can take over. I don't care if it's no good in parking garages or my own driveway. I'll spend 3 minutes driving from my house, let the car take over, let the car do the boring freeway driving, and it can alert me when I'm 3 minutes from work. Then I'll take over and get into the parking garage and park my car.

Are we really whining because a brand new technology can't do EVERYTHING for us? Because it only takes care of MOST of the drudgery?

You're accusing other people of being brainwashed, but you sound even more brainwashed. Evil Hamas uses children to dig Tunnels of Terror! Let's face it, it takes two to tango and Israel is just as guilty of violence as Hamas. As long as they keep pointing fingers and taking retribution for the last attack, there will never be peace between Palestine and Hamas. Frankly, I don't think Israel WANTS peace. I think they want the Palestinian land. There's also the fat stacks of defense cash flowing through Israel. It's hard to blame Palestinians for fighting back when they're blockaded and can't get medicine or even building materials to fix up their buildings. It's hard to look at the situation with Palestinians throwing rocks, Hamas firing shitty homemade rockets that immediately get shot down by Israel's Iron Dome system... and then look at the disproportionate Israeli response, the 10:1 Palestinian:Isreali death ratio, and the facts of life under blockade, and see anything but Israel being the aggressor.

The Palestinian demands are to end the blockade and recognize them as a state. How is that unreasonable?

I'll second this. I could bring this country to its knees with $5000 on a Home Depot card. Drive past electrical substation, throw long and thick piece of wire, keep driving. That's just off the top of my head. Heck, I live in Portland, where the main water supply is open to the air, and in a city PARK. People jog past it.

I have books in my house with dangerous information. Having information is not a crime. Have a desire is not a crime. Writing down that you want to release bubonic plague on people is a FAR cry from having the actual means and will to do so.

A terrorist can take my life, but let's face it. Odds are, I'll die in a car accident. Terrorists with ACTUAL bombs don't scare me. Terrorists with word documents on a laptop certainly don't scare me.

The only people that hurt my freedom were Americans that keep voting stupid.

I'm going to download lots of dangerous information on my laptop. Perhaps a chemistry book or two. Perhaps my own country should invade my house.....

I do not understand how people with this outlook can get anything done in life.

Cameras are good. They keep everyone, cops and public, polite. If the camera doesn't work, that comes out in the courtroom. That's what the courtroom is for.

You can TRY.

I buy specific New Balance shoes, because they're made in America and theoretically made under some labor laws. I buy my clothing second hand. At least I'm not the one who payed the blood price on them. I try to buy local food, or at least Organic. I ride my bike and take public transportation as much as possible. When I need to buy a power tool, I hit Craigslist and buy an older (and usually better made and cheaper to boot) tool instead of buying new. My computers are bought second hand as well. A four year old Laptop surfs the web, programs, and does CAD work just fine. Etc.

Blah blah, I'm awesome... the point is, you can TRY. If consumers shifted their consumption patterns just a LITTLE bit, it would send a big message. Just look at food. 15 years ago, the concept of an Organic isle in Safeway was inconceivable. Look at chocolate. Fair trade is better than not fair trade. Even buying from the same company, but Organic, means that company is behaving better. People wanted better chocolate, and they wanted to feel like they weren't taking advantage. The market shifted in response.

Or you could just not care, because there's nothing you can do. I think that's the biggest lie we as Humans have to overcome. There is PLENTY you can do. Amazing things happen when folks organize and share effort.

Right after the BP oil spill, I stood outside my house and watched cars go into an AM/PM for gas. Right across the road was a Shell (not that Shell is innocent or anything). I thought to myself "BP just did a Bad Thing, why are people buying from AM/PM? It says 'part of BP' right on the sign!"

Perhaps it was habit? Perhaps it was that the gas was 5cents cheaper a gallon?

This still bugs me to this day. Five cents a gallon, with each person having approximately a 10-15gal tank.. They couldn't or wouldn't spend 50-75 cents to send a message.

There are already a lot of posts saying "where would they go to?". I get that. I do. But we still need to pull our heads out of our (not so) collective asses. There is only one thing that a company fears, and that is a drop in profit. As long as it's profitable to take advantage of us, they will. It's not THAT much effort to be a conscious consumer. People have been doing it with food. They just need to extend it to other things.

This is not unexplained. You just didn't look.
