The quality of comments on are are further proof of how far downhill /. has fallen. It's just depressing.

Ironically, this is exactly what your post made me think. It's 2014 and someone on Slashdot is asking what the performance and security considerations of virtualization are? Really? Every one of your questions is answered within about 30 seconds of Googling and reading.

It's similar, it's a linux container technology. It also uses a couple of newish features in the kernel to give you a little more control over your containers (namely, cgroups and namesakes). But if you're familiar with containers then you already know what docker is, at the basic level.

They exist so that the software keyboard can move out of the way and the input mechanism can be changed by software. It's a trade off. You trade the ability to type more quickly for a per application, software defined user interface.

(consumption and feeding you ads)

You forgot communication. Phone calls, email, text messages, facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat, Yik Yak (I could go on for a while).

Comment Re:It's Cox, they're lying (Score 1) 129

Right now in my market Cox offers a 150Mb/s (with Speedboost, I have seen 177Mb/s) with a 400GB/mo cap. That's about 85 720p Bluray downloads per month or 640 hours (26 days, 24 hours a day!) per month of Netflix HD video streaming. I'm sure there are corner cases where people need more than that, but we've got to be talking a fraction of 1%. And in those cases, they can just opt for business service with no data cap. It's really not THAT unreasonable. Of all the Cable companies, Cox is probably the least awful.
