Journal Journal: Video Production Support

So a few weeks ago I decided that there wasn't any good place for technical media professionals to gather, share ideas, and get free content, so I created one.
Video Production Support - Support materials and forums for videographers, engineers, and broadcast professionals

PS: I'm looking for a good logo design (as well as content ideas and maybe a few forum moderators). See the forums for details.

Journal Journal: Chilis goes MySpace

With the increasing popularity of interrelational database driven sites allowing users to maintain groups of friends; like MySpace, Friendster, and Facebook; companies like Chili's have started to tag their television commercials with the url of a corporate MySpace account rather than their domain name. (The Chili's commercial is visible on their MySpace page) Is this a twist on viral marketing, a whole new realm, a new approach to branding, or a way to alienate customers who do not use such services?

Journal Journal: Halloween's News

For those of you who don't know, I'm at a new school this semester and working the school's TV station.

Ok, so we tried recording the news to tape tonight and playing it back and inserting spots and such live. Everything went well during recording except for the lack of timing numbers because we didn't go live to tape but recorded segments, and no one tracked time.
The show looked great (for what it could). Then we had about 40 minutes to log and time each piece and get it ready to play. Sean was going to do this, but he had an interview to take care of, so I logged the tape (I think I was a frame off in my logging). Now, I did all of my math perfectly, but I ran into a slight problem. When I finished my math, we seemed to be short by about 5 minutes. Then I was reminded that we end 30 seconds before the half hour. Good, only 4:30 short. About 3 minutes before the actual end time, we made a realization. While my math was perfect, I forgot to include the commercials, so instead of being 4:30 short we were actually about 30 seconds heavy. Meanwhile, we had been throwing in extra things to make up for the 'lost' time.

Stolen from FortKnox:

1. Think of the first word that comes to mind when you think of me.

2. Go to: http://images.google.com/ and search for that word.

3. Reply to this post with one of the pictures on the first page of results* (but do not tell me the word).

4. Put this in your own journal so that I can do the same.

Journal Journal: Compaq Portable III "Luggy"

I have started this journal to document how I have modified my Compaq Portable III [aptly named "Luggy"] to do things beyond everyone's expectations.
The Portable III is an 80286/8 MHz [12 MHz turbo, jumper inside back cover] with 640 kiloBytes of RAM, a 40 MegaByte HDD [yes, the 40 MB version, not the 20 MB ver], a 5.25" HD floppy drive [oooh 1.2 MB more] which I have set running DOS 6.22 with Windows *3.0* installed (and working), and of course, a 'Orange and Darker Orange monochromatic display [which oddly enough uses a CGA (Color Graphics Adapter) -- I guess orange really is a color].
The things I have already accomplished doing to it:
[If I say that i have added/installed something, that includes getting it to work]
Adding a Soundcard
Adding a CD-ROM Drive
Adding a Network card
Adding a Barcode Scanner ...and...
Installing a GRAPHICAL web browser [no lynx anymore].
Once I have the time, I will take pictures and post them on my website at http://www.tonsofpcs.com/
