I doubt that. The queen still retains ownership of a large portion of land in the UK, and leases it to the people for a small fee.

There is no legal obligation for the sitting monarch to do this, it's just tradition. The sitting monarch leases the land to Parliament which then leases it out to companies and citizens, and collects taxes on the land.

The queen uses the money she makes from the lease to live like a... well, like a queen.

Close, but not quite.

(a)theism is about belief, and (a)gnosticism is about knowledge.

A theist believes in a deity, an atheist does not.

You can be open to the idea of a deity while still being an atheist, or you could be an anti-theist. If you do not believe in a god or gods, you are an atheist.

If you know there is no god, you are an agnostic.

I doubt more energy would allow for faster evolution.

If any planets are around Vega, it's entirely possible for them to house life. Life formed on Earth a few hundred million years after it formed. The tricky part would be detecting it.

Life was all anaerobic bacteria on Earth for most of its history. It didn't start getting complex until there was a sizable amount of oxygen in the atmosphere. That's partly why detecting any life on Vega at all is going to be very difficult. Free oxygen in the atmosphere is pretty good evidence of life, and we would be able to detect that at 25 light years away. The trouble is that because Vega is so young, it's doubtful that the simple organisms that would be there would have been able to generate oxygen that fast.

Assuming the aliens evolve the same way life did on Earth, and their biochemistry would allow for massive evolution with oxygen like us.

Forgive my American units ineptitude, but unless you're in the Antarctic, isn't it practically a certainty to be within 50 kilometers of another car in any populated country?

The problem there is that almost all doctors in the US are prohibited by oath and professional association membership rules from involvement in executions

Funny, in Texas, doctors are the ones who perform the executions by lethal injection. The reason is because an autopsy does not need to be performed if a doctor performs the execution.

I see this sentiment posted all over the place, but it's just not true. Twinkies do indeed have a shelf life. I've seen video of a 10 year old Twinkie being hit by a hammer, and it shatters into pieces like a rock. They don't have a "shelf life best measured in geologic terms." I can't find the video at the moment, but it's on Youtube, just search for it.
