Submission + - How/Where To Start Watching Dr. Who? (insert-disc.com) 2

stinkfish writes: I am a big fan of science fiction, especially good TV science fiction. For some reason Dr. Who is a show I have watched very little of. My question to Slashdot is, whats the best strategy for enjoying this classic show? Looking at the wikipedia page on Dr. who, I see there are 11 Doctors, so is hard to pick a good starting point. If it was just up to me, I would start watching from the very beginning. But I know my wife would not watch a show that dated, though she is a science fiction fan herself and enjoyed a few seasons of Tourchwood. So where do I start? Not using the new JavaScript engine in UIWebView (the component used to render web like content) is a good thing in my eyes. It is pretty hard to debug JavaScript apps in UIWebView, since you don't have things like a DOM inspector or a JavaScript debugger. By keeping the engine the same, they have guaranteed that the existing UIWebView based apps will continue to function after the upgrade to 4.3. Imagine if every app making heavy use of UIWebView had subtle errors after the upgrade... I *would* like to see the faster engine available to UIWebView, but in the mean time, I will take compatibility.

Submission + - What is your favorite way to make coffee?

markov_chain writes: For a while I've been making coffee using home-ground whole beans and a standard drip maker. I settled on this method for its simplicity and good taste even after trying numerous others such as French press, gravity and pressure percolators, each coupled with either preground or whole beans. So far, the fresh ground beans are the only factor that made a significant difference in taste. However, when I recently spotted a site that vaguely extols freshness, I began to wonder how much the freshness of even the whole beans themselves affects quality. Normally I thought the whole beans would retain the quality far longer due to less surface area exposed to air, but clearly there still must be a decline; worse yet, it is difficult to gauge that decline since the sellers usually do not advertise the age of the beans. For this reason, I would like to throw out two questions to you, Slashdot readers, about our favorite beverage. 1) what is your preferred coffee-making method, and how does it compare to other methods you tried? 2) What are your favorite beans? Specifically, not just the varietal, but also the source and the age (if known).
