Systemd goes against the KISS principle that Linux and Unix have long followed. However, many would argue that Linux has become too complex for this principle to work when it comes to system management. For user space, it is becoming more of necessity. Those who are using Linux on server side, it seems to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

Yes I had a Rio PMP 300. It could only hold 32MB and later 64MB. There was an additional SmartMedia slot but that was maxed out at 32MB at the time. At most you could hold 90 minutes of music. From what I remember you could use playlists or directory navigation. I don't remember being able to search using ID3 but then again with 90 minutes, I didn't need to.

Apple paid the company 578 million dollars up front to supply them with this glass.
Apple then said "sorry, changed our minds, we aren't going to use your glass".

I'm not sure of what your source is but as far as I know Apple is using sapphire for their watch. I assume the supplier is GT because it is not an easily produced material. They are not using it for their phones but it was only Internet speculation that said Apple would use sapphire on the iPhone 6. Maybe Apple intended to but for manufacturing reasons opted not to do so.

Yes but I believe that only works with PowerShell which was way past Windows 9x and ME. I think the call to get the version would return the kernel version (ie NT 4.0, 5.0 ,etc). This post from 2003 seems to suggest back then, the version API did not return the marketing name but the kernel version even the detail where it was the NT kernel or the Win32 kernel.

That's clever but the cynic in me thinks part of the reason is that MS can claim one version higher than Apple when it comes to Windows 11. I wouldn't put it past them to name it Windows XI just to hint that Windows is more advanced than OS X. That's why the named their second console the 360. If they used "2" or "Two" then it would appear on version behind the PS 3. Xbox One is just a dumb name IMHO.

Yes, under the hood, Windows 8 was actually a pretty good upgrade. Faster boot-up, less cruft, better memory management, etc. What really killed it was the UI changes. MS wants to have a single OS and UI for everything but this is a tricky thing to do. Normally MS takes 3 tries to get things right so I'm guessing Windows XI (yes MS will change the naming convention again) will finally handle tablet and desktop environments seamlessly.

Yes and Apple does not take that away. I seem to remember there was an option to "Let me manage my own music" a long time ago. People that were pissy about it were people who wanted Apple to load it onto an iPod into a clear directory layout that they could access. This means they could easily share music. But with Apple's system you had to load music as files and as music which meant twice the space required.

Yes it reminds me of the Palm Pre iTunes sync fiasco. Now Palm could have (1) written their own sync software and music library (2) read Apple's iTunes XML library or (3) trick iTunes into thinking that a Palm was an iPod. Palm chose #3. Then when Apple enforced the USB device recognition parameters to lock them out, Palm complained to the USB Implementers Forum but the USB IF scolded Palm instead for breaking rules on how USB devices should identify themselves.
