Microsoft Paid NFL $400 Million To Use Surface, But Announcers Call Them iPads 405

mpicpp sends this news from Business Insider: Prior to the season, Microsoft and the NFL struck a 5-year, $400 million deal with one of the major components being that the Microsoft Surface would become "the official tablet of the NFL," with coaches and players using the Surface on the sidelines during games. But Microsoft and the league ran into a problem during week one of the season when at least two television announcers mistakenly referred to the tablets as iPads, giving a huge rival some unexpected exposure. The biggest blunder for the league came during the nationally televised Monday Night Football game when ESPN's Trent Dilfer joked about how long it took Cardinals assistant head coach Tom Moore to "learn how to use the iPad to scroll through the pictures." In a separate incident, Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints was spotted by Fox commentator John Lynch using a Surface on the sideline. Lynch remarked that Brees was "not watching movies on his iPad.

1000 soldiers is hardly an army. A battalion to brigade at best. 100 tanks are crewed by about 300 soldiers. So, if there are 1000 soldiers, then you have up to 700 available as support (this number would almost certainly include other types of combat troops such as motorized infantry). Furthermore, such a force would have up to 50000 km to disperse in as the current situation certainly does not call for concentrating in one place.

That means if there are 1000 additional Russian soldiers rolling around in Ukraine, then they would be very hard to pinpoint.

Grand Ayatollah Says High Speed Internet Is "Against Moral Standards" 542

An anonymous reader writes A Grand Ayatollah in Iran has determined that access to high-speed and 3G Internet is "against Sharia" and "against moral standards." However, Iran's President, Hassan Rouhani, plans to renew licenses and expand the country’s 3G cellular phone network. A radical MP associated with the conservative Resistance Front, warned: “If the minister continues to go ahead with increasing bandwidth and Internet speed, then we will push for his impeachment and removal from the cabinet.” “We will vigorously prevent all attempts by the [communication] minister to expand 3G technology, and if our warnings are not heeded, then the necessary course of action will be taken,” he added.

Of course if you own your own home, you can put in all the ethernet you want.

In theory, yes. In reality it means knocking lots of holes in the walls, drilling through floors, etc, etc.. That gets expensive / time consuming. The previous owners of my house had the thing (built 1890) wired with coax and it all runs on the outside of the house. I settled for running one CAT6 cable from my office on the 2nd floor to the basement. Otherwise I'm stuck with WiFi.
