4/1 is sufficient for my 2 year old daughter, my dead grandmother, and my cat who mostly just wants to chase the mouse around the screen. Pretty much everyone ELSE in the house wants more than that.

AT&T wants to sell the fantasy that people who want more bwidth really just want UVerse TV, not internet bandwidth. Which is false, anti-competitive and in a more rational world would involve lining them up against a wall and allowing "many americans" to stone them.

Per uses eq for string equality checks, making the distinction between that and == for numerics. I'm not sure that one is weird.

Verilog has a nice one though ===, meaning two wires are in exactly equal states, including more abstract states like "don't care" or "high impedance", rather than simple == which is a logical comparison. It has no real physical meaning, it's purely for programming purposes.

The perpetrator should be thrown in jail and punished to the full extent of the law. But that doesn't make me less of a moron for doing it in the first place.

Don't take nudes of yourself if you can't handle the consequence of them getting out in public. Mom's advice circa 1985, long before our communications devices were either portable or had built in cameras and linked to a world-wide net of perverts. It's not victim blaming or victim hating to point out obvious mistakes. We all know there are bad people out there, we cannot catch every one before they strike, so protect your damned self. THIS is the reason why Linux will never be a mainstream desktop.

No I think it's a strength. When MS forced Me, vista, Win8 on it, we recoiled and puked, but some people were forced to use it because they lacked options.

When Ubuntu forced Unity on us, we all just dropped Ubuntu and carried on. There has definitely been a loss to the community, Ubuntu was a solid distro for a while, but it's gone, and we still have options.

For Mom and the unwashed mashes, the iPad does what they need it to do (i.e. very little). For people getting work done, we need choices, we're willing to suffer a little to avoid suffering a lot.

Why do you think that? I have the strong feeling most of the first world looks at this like a bag of poo that's on fire. No one really wants to do anything with it but pretend it's not there.

Wait, you're saying nerds used to have lives, it's just high speed internet that killed it? That alt.sex.pictures.oddly.specific.weirdo.porn was a relatively recent invention?

I'll have you know that TRUE nerds used to have to jerk it to 320x200x256 palletized images. Nipples would be fucking CYAN half the time, but it was that or play wing commander. SuperVGA made the situation oh so much better, we could get 640x480x16bit in 200-300kB files that would take 2 hours to download, but hey, pink nipples! Assuming some family member didn't pick up the phone right before that line was downloaded and ready to rasterize. The cure for THAT were progressive jpeg's, we could jerk it staring at what either was snatch, or a golden retriever, the connection would probably drop before we could find out.

No the only thing that has changed is the quality of porn and the number of viewers.

Or so I'm told, I think I read about all this in a book.

AT&T did not have to use ATM for DSL, that was a bad choice made by some telecom equipment vendors back in the late 90s, as part of an attempt to create a centralized AOL-like internet for the monopolies, rather than succumb to what was already inevitable at that time and force the monopolies to be common carrier bandwidth providers.

The idiotic, long lost battle rages on. Bottom line is that ATM is dead outside the central office, it's not the only way to do this, but it's the one they've chosen to invest in. We should not be paying for it, and in a competitive market it'd have been gone 10 years ago.

Trivially easy to do, I've ditched AT&T as a result of being billed for going over that cap. But I have that option, not everyone does.

I believe my wife watched standard def movies, and I downloaded wildstar and one update during that month. That plus FW updates and normal internet usage was enough to go over. I can't imagine what would happen if we were actually at home enough to really use our internet connection.
