Comment Why don't wii's play dvds? (Score 5, Interesting) 103

I mean really this seems like the most obvious feature the wii should have had by default. They are targeting the families that can't afford bigger systems, and they apparently wanted a smaller system that didnt take a ton of space.

so by eliminating the family dvd player, they accomplish both...

so why didn't they?

6'5" isn't very much larger than the average, being a 6' american, however the often-less-measured statistic which actually affects tall peoples comfort is how tall your upper body is, and how long your lower body is.

and then there's how comfortable you are when you have your legs fully extended as opposed to those who prefer to have their legs bent somewhat to drive.

But I'm only 5'9" so everything's comfortable to me :)

i live in europe and no, it's now the SAME to buy on steam as it's been to buy in regular stores for years now. When I goto mediamarkt and see a game for 60 that costs $50 online, it was a no brainer. Now I gotta actually shop around, because sometimes it would be cheaper to just buy the real thing rather than the virtual thing.

Submission + - Halo 3 outsells everything... ever.

n3tcat writes: According to Yahoo! Games, Microsoft is announcing that their game, Halo 3, has outsold every other entertainment release in history. "Confirming the expectations of many industry pundits, Microsoft announced today that its flagship Xbox 360 shooter Halo 3 had the biggest entertainment launch in history, generating a record-breaking $170m in the United States on its Tuesday debut." I wonder how much of this is inflated in the same ways that people have suggested the Vista sales were inflated...

Submission + - Florida announces new massive solar plant.

genegeek writes: On the heels of yesterday's slashdot submission about the first new nuclear power plant in three decades, it might be nice to note that yesterday Florida's governor Crist, ex-president Bill Clinton and Brad Pitt gathered at a news conference with Florida Power and Light to announce a new solar power plant to generate electricity. It's to be a 300 megawatt facility, making it one of the largest in the world. According to the article, the $2.4 billion investment also will fund an additional 200 megawatts for California. The Florida plant will eliminate 11 million tons of C02 emissions in two decades of operation. However, it is only a start: FP&L currently has a 25,000-megawatt capacity, mostly from natural gas and nuclear.
