There's a UE4 game already being worked on that is coming to linux: http://linuxgamenews.biz/tag/unreal-engine-4/

Also, with the announcement of Steam OS (linux based), it would be very surprising not to see an officially produced and supported version of UE4 for linux.

I think we have a lot of great stuff to look forward to on that front.

In other words: Maybe get a super cheap android phone and stick this on it...

That's a delusional point of view... Apple is forcing users to buy cables at an artificially increased price. This is price fixing/gouging at its finest. There isn't/wasn't anything wrong with the cables the users we using. The manufacturers just didn't pay an apple tax which creates a more expensive product that functions absolutely no better than the cheaper "unauthorized" alternative.

This is anti-competitive and anti-consumer. It's another reason on the pile for while I quit buying apple products, and will continue to avoid them.

I think developers, knowing that players will at least have the hardware, will be free to make Kinect required for their specific games. I'm imagining some kind of art on game cases to specify this, like there was for the 360.

The fact is, most games/developers weren't going to use that rubbish anyway. That kind of control simply isn't the future because people don't WANT to play games and use interfaces that way. It's FAR more of a hassle to wave your hands around than it is to just push a button or move a control stick. If it was 100% reliable like handheld controllers are it'd be one thing, but the kinect as it stands has like a 40% success rate at actually understanding what you're trying to get it to do.

Would my fellow slashdotters be willing to suggest some businesses based in locations that would be (reasonably) assumed to be immune from a government's snooping? I don't think we've hit that tipping point "yet." I still have hope that we never will. You're correct in that things have changed. What it took then and what it would take now are different animals.

I was making a specific point though, which you've highlighted, and which escaped a lot of other people, I think. The people who did what they did in 1776 would not stand for what our government is doing to/against us now. They fought for a LOT more than the garbage we're sucking down willingly now. Our government is completely off base and way outside the lines of what should be considered acceptable.

They're acting like the rotten kids who get caught with their hand in the cookie jar, and then throw themselves on the floor screaming in rage at their parents, because they hope their show of emotion will distract from the sin they just commited. We're being led by a pile of toddlers.

They're acting like spoiled, jilted children. I'm frankly ashamed of this sham of a government we have running the "show" at the moment. I use quotes because it's a circus, not a government. The american politicians of 1776 would have these morons in irons for the rest of their lives. Well, more accurately the poiticians of 1776 would have these morons surrendering after a bloody 4 year war for independence.

IMHO:

This is extra sucky because I feel that Windows Phones and Windows Tablets offer, hands down, the best "mobile" experience. Their interface is truly great for tablets/phones, but they arrives too little/too late to the scene. If they hadn't had such a mess internally the first time around in regards to tablets, things might have turned out VERY different.

I absolutely love using their interface in a "touch" environment. If they can somehow figure out how to...yaknow...actually succeed, I will definitely have no qualms about buying their devices in the future.
