Submission + - SF.net takes a stand against sexism & hate spe (whatwillweuse.com)

StoneLion writes: Some yabbo who goes by mikeeUSA is an Internet troll who advocates violence against women. He posted several offensive code contributions on SourceForge.net (our sister site), including one text-based slot machine game that displayed messages encouraging the denial of women’s rights. Beth Lynn Eicher, a director of the Ohio LinuxFest, submitted a code review to sourceforge.net for and recommended removal of mikeeusa. SourceForge responded by saying, "We have removed this user's account — along with each project where he was the sole contributor." Call it another blow against sexism in OSS — unless the Streisand effect kicks in.

Submission + - Eben Moglen says Tim O'Reilly is 'frivolous'

lisah writes: When Eben Moglen took the stage at OSCON today, things heated up rather quickly. According to reports, 'At the O'Reilly Open Source Convention, Eben Moglen threw down the gauntlet to O'Reilly founder and CEO Tim O'Reilly. Saying that O'Reilly had spent ten years making money and building the O'Reilly name, Moglen invited O'Reilly to stop being "frivolous" and to join the conversation about software freedom.'
