Comment The systems suck (Score 1) 243

I switched from VISA to MASTERCARD because the system sucked, it pissed me off having to jump through hoops to buy something. Then MASTERCARD came out with the same system, just not used as much so I'm still staying with them. Actually pretty funny story... I made a purchase last Fall on a website that had the MASTERCARD security thingy, I hit cancel cause my account got locked out, and the purchase STILL WENT THROUGH.... ya... nice security there.

First MySQL 5.5 Beta Released 95

joabj writes "While MySQL is the subject of much high-profile wrangling between the EU and Oracle (and the MySQL creator himself), the MySQL developers have been quietly moving the widely-used database software forward. The new beta version of MySQL, the first publicly available, features such improvements as near-asynchronous replication and more options for partitioning. A new release model has been enacted as well, bequeathing this version the title of 'MySQL Server 5.5.0-m2.' Downloads here."

OnLive Begins Beta Testing 80

Steve Perlman, CEO of OnLive, has announced that beta testing is now underway for the cloud gaming service that aims to take the processing burden for cutting-edge games off a player's computer and use remote servers instead. Reaction to this service and competitor GaiKai has been interest tempered with skepticism, but users can now sign up to test it themselves and see if the reality matches the hype. There will be hardware and connectivity restrictions to start: "When you sign up for OnLive Beta, you tell us some general information about your ISP, your computer configuration and your location. We use this information to organize Beta testers into test groups so that our engineering team can focus at different times on testing different situations. If you are a potential fit for a particular test group, we'll send you an invitation email, asking you to run a detailed Performance Test on your network connection and your computer configuration."

In related news, The Pirate Bay seems to be offline. Might this be the GGF updating the servers for their new implementation? Further, once TPB is back, you can now torrent the archive of user comments from TPB."

The technique, dubbed dark field microscopy, allows mice to be used on almost any surface, including glass as long as it is more than 4mm thick.

I agree, and I am so happy that they are remaking Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Zero for the Wii, I never played those cause I find they look awful now, but a remake? I'm ready to preorder them as soon as I can.
