Submission + - AMD Comes Back Strong with the Radeon 4870 X2 (hardwarecanucks.com)

teko_teko writes: AMD/ATI finally takes back the high-end performance crown from nVidia with the Radeon 4870 X2. HardwareCanucks reviews the card and finds,

"...the HD4870 X2 2GB is the absolute undisputed king of the single-card hill and probably will be for some time. [..] But just remember: this isn't a card for those of you with 19" or 20" LCD monitors. It is for the privileged few with massive monitors of the beastly 24" and 30" variety."

Comparing from different reviews, looks like this graphics card is so fast, now the bottleneck in games lies in the CPU: HardwareCanucks uses Intel QX9770 @ 3.852 GHz, TechPowerUp uses Intel E8400 @ 3.6 GHz, HEXUS uses Intel QX9650 @ 3.0GHz, and Guru3D uses Intel E8400 @ 3.0 GHz

Submission + - Georgia Tech Developed Portable "Tricorder" (gatech.edu)

teko_teko writes: "
Researchers at Georgia Tech have developed a narrowband filter mosaic that will expand the uses and functionality of multispectral imaging — a technology that enables subsurface characterization. The new, single-exposure imaging tool could significantly improve point-of-care medical and forensic imaging by empowering front line clinicians with no specialized training to detect and assess, in real-time, the severity of bruises and erythema, regardless of patient skin pigmentation or available lighting.
At least it's smaller than last year's tricorder."
