I'd never hire someone with your attitude. Someone who puts money above all else is not the kind of person I want to be around or to employee. Even if your asking salary was well within my budget.

And none of us will work for you. For several reasons, starting with reading comprehension. The poster didn't say it was all about the money. They said that money mattered. And of course it matters. Everyone needs to have their basic needs met, and in this world, that requires money. And most people would like a little on top of that - because a well rounded person isn't only about one skill set. And if there are things you want to enjoy besides your job, you often need to make more money than absolutely required to survive. And that's why you're post is moronic - because somehow you missed all of this. No one wants to work for an incompetent, right?

This may seem naive, but are you seriously telling us, the Slashdot crowd, that you shouldn't have to release your data because *gasp* someone might do SCIENCE with it? And your suggestion is to impose a copyright/licensing scheme on it? I'm a bit surprised I'm the only person commenting on this. I do see your "continuing funding, job opportunities and pay grade" - but if everyone is doing it, then PERHAPS things might change?

There is no way to identify when MS was "triggered" - so if your friend was told his mother developing cancer "triggered" his MS, I'd suggest he consult another doctor. MS is hard enough to diagnose as it is - MRI's, multiple symptoms, and often a spinal tap are used to diagnosis it, and most experts would say that there is no certainty even at that point.

I have no problem saying that public events can't claim that photos taken at the event are owned by the event sponsor, organizer, etc. HOWEVER, to say that the photographer has no rights to the photo they took is a bit crazy. I'm guessing that you have no idea how difficult it can be to actually TAKE a good photograph. I could be wrong, but seriously, if you had one hundred people take a photograph of the same thing, and one, good, professional photographer take the same shot, I guarantee the difference between those one hundred amateur photos and the one professional photo would be obvious and non-trivial.

Why would Nintendo not be able to release Wind Waker 2 or Metroid Prime: the Next Version if the copyright had expired? I dont' understand why people seem to think that an expired copyright means the original copyright owner can't use the copyrighted concept in a sequel or whatever. It's TRUE that they may have competition, but there is cachet in being "from the creator of the original Zelda" - we see that every day. This argument, as far as I can tell, is bogus.

This was always the point of the purchase. Google needed those patents to defend themselves. They bought the company to get the patents, and now that they've decided which ones matter, they are passing along the rest of the company to someone who cares. They got what they wanted, paid the price they felt was worth it, and are now happily sitting with patents that they can use to counter attacks by other patent holders in the smart phone market. I believe there was intense speculation about this being the motive when we first discussed this purchase on Slashdot.

It doesn't make sense to say "we fuxked this up really bad already, so it doesn't matter what we do now." That's pretty screwed up people. How about you fix the process and start nominating people that deserve it? That's the best answer to failing - try to fix the problems and do it better next time. And all of what I said has nothing to do with whether or not Snowden deserves the Peace Prize. It's about whether or not giving Obama the Peace Prize means that they shouldn't try to do it better this time.
