Submission + - US military unveils heat-ray gun & black ice

Gearoid_Murphy writes: The US military has shown for the first time a heat ray gun which will be used to subdue crowds of unruly punters. I presume this system works off some kind of microwave physics, quite a change of tactics from the early assurances from the US that they would be welcomed in the streets of Iraq. The full story is at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6297149.stm. Also on the same site is a story about how the US military has developed artificial black ice for foiling any classic chase scenes : http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/6295567. stm. Its good to see that the .5 thrillion dollar budget is being put to good use, who needs hospitals when you've got black ice?

Well there is an argument for saying that Windows is the standard *desktop* OS.

That doesn't mean it's the standard server OS, or embedded OS.

You could generalise further to say that by volume Windows is the standard OS, but that just isn't necessarily very meaningful to someone making a decision in regard to a large data centre deployment, for example.

Kororaa Accused of Violating GPL 843

AlanS2002 writes "The Kororaa Project, a pre-configured binary install method for Gentoo Linux which bundles nVidia's and ATI binary drivers in its Kororaa Xgl Live CD , has put its Live CD on hold after being accused of violating the GPL. The issue appears to be the distribution of the Linux Kernel and nVidia's/ATI binary drivers together. When the binary drivers are built the GPL'ed code is included in the binary result, which is a violation."
