Comment BZZZZT (Score 1, Interesting) 279

Sorry, this story is just plain wrong. Windows 7 works fine under the existing bootcamp. Macs are just glorified Intel machines after all. As long as you expose the bios interface that allows windows xp/vista to run, windows 7 will run fine too.

Sure, there may be a grain of truth in the article. Windows 7 is not "officially" supported by Apple. Neither is linux, and that runs fine on Macs too!

The 7 second ads make me want to puke. The actors talk like they either had way too much coffee or seriously need mental help. If an operating system requires you to be that hyper to use it, then it probably isn't one you should use.

Yes, I know Windows 7 is actually good, but the ads don't really tell us why.

Comment Fascination With End of Times (Score 1) 870

I think it has more to do with the fascination about the End of Times. People love seeing movies like Apocalypse Now or 2012. Perhaps it is because we as humans realize that the lives we lead now are superficial and do not allow us to reach the potential that we have within us. Nobody likes being wage-slaves to our feudalistic overlords.

I think, deep inside somewhere, we all yearn for a simpler time when we don't have all the stimulation and complexity technology currently gives us.

In reality, I think this is where technology went wrong: instead of making our lives simpler and easier, it has ended up making them more complex and more stressful for us all! Technology should not be attempting to change our lives for the worse; it should be an aid to help all humanity live better lives. I think we have strayed far from that goal, sadly.

P.S. I have no hatred of technology and love it as much as the next tech geek, but there's a point where you just have to think, "Yes, we may have gone too far..." I think that point comes when you look at the world you live in and see that we are obsessed with death and mayhem on the news, while in the real world, many people suffer and we (as a collective) do nothing to aid their lives.

P.P.S. Throwing money at people does not count.

P.P.P.S. Yes, I do know there are many organizations that go out and help the peoples of the world outside our borders, but the aid I'm talking about is this: Technological discoveries that actually help the people of the rest of the world live better lives, not us. This is where a capitalistic technology system fails. If it's not in our interest to discover better ways to use technology to clear sand dunes and create better irrigation systems in the desert, it just won't happen.

Submission + - First Tablet Device using PixelQi Confirmed (slashgear.com) 1

Azureflare writes: The first device using a PixelQi screen has been confirmed! It is produced by Nokia, and it appears they took a few design tips from Apple by sticking with a design that has tapered edges. This Nokia Tablet should give Apple a run for their money, especially considering the recently confirmed rumor of an Apple tablet. Caveat: there are some pictures of the device in use, but the pictures are not great quality; one of them appears to be very blurry.

The only way I can get to it is by going to Help & Account -> Classic Index -> Sections as the AC below mentioned.

From all the horror stories, I actually am glad I have ATT rather than Verizon. Gosh, I never thought I'd say that.

At least I CHOSE to be locked in with Apple. I knew what I was signing up for.

Honestly, I feel sorry for us all. It's important to have at least one major provider that is open and not locked in.

It seems everyone is copying Apple's model now, which is NOT what I was expecting! Where's the innovation guys?

They're trying to patent client/server communications, except over the internet! It's a painfully obvious approach and their patent should (idealistically) not hold water, due to it being completely obvious. You might try submitting your app as evidence in one of the big suits to revoke their patent. We're all interested parties here, and really anything that can be done to eliminate this obvious patent troll would be fighting The Good Fight IMO.

Who knows, maybe the judges in these cases will see the light and throw Eolas out of court. One can dream.

Is it really possible for a company to wait until everyone is using technology which they patented, and then go after everyone for using it without paying them? I mean, no one even knew Eolas had this did they?

I know this "defense" thing usually is only applicable to trademarks, but really. I couldn't think of a more despicable thing than waiting in the shadows until everyone uses a (supposedly) free technology that didn't even originate from their company, and then striking when everyone is using it. Shame on them.

When my 2 year contract is up, I will definitely jump ship to Verizon if they implement this. The droid isn't that bad for what I use my iPhone for (mostly Google Maps when I'm lost in NYC.... which doesn't really happen that much anymore). I just don't use anything else on it reliably since I got my PSP, except maybe internet, but the Droid does that, too.
