Submission + - Book Review: Does IT Matter? (5thwind.com)

roomisigloomis writes: Mr. Carr says that IT will become a purely infrastructural concept as its cost continues to drop. Further, because IT will become a commodity, it will provide no competitive advantage to any organization, just as electricity provides no such advantage today though it did at its introduction into the business world during the Industrial Revolution. Today, it is just a cost of doing business. To paraphrase the book, there were once Vice Presidents of Electricity; today, there are none. Can we expect the role of CIO to go the same way?
