Citizens United wasn't about donating to campaigns; it was about spending money separate from the campaign organization (i.e. Freedom of Speech). Congress certainly could limit how much individuals, corporations, unions, etc. can spend on political messages. But neither side wants to kill that goose.

Those two are not mutually exclusive. A Republic is one form of Democracy. I suppose you could have a Democracy that isn't a Republic though (democratically elected Monarchy?).

Of course we've all heard the argument that "Democracy" means direct governing by the people without elected representatives. That's one form of Democracy, Republic is another. It's most accurate to say the United States is a federation of semi-autonomous states which are themselves Republics.

If it was a fine the Supreme Court would have struck down the law. But they recognized Congress' authority to impose taxes, so the law stands.

Depth of Field isn't an all or nothing thing. Thegoal is being able to control it so you can create the image you want. Love a picture that's sharp corner to corner? Great! Want a picture that emphasizes the subject and blurs the background or vignettes the corners? That's great too!

This being slashdot, I think it's appropriate to discuss the technical aspects of photographic lenses. You might even learn something by reading it with an open mind.

The incentives are in the form of tax breaks. A big data center like this will still generate some tax dollars and add to the local economy - enough to cover the additional expenses. The rest is just funny money, tax revenues they wouldn't have collected without the project, so no loss.

IF you can easily find a serious security hole AND IF there are a very large number of other serious security holes AND IF there are also a very large number of less serious security holes, THEN there's no point in offering a bounty because the number of less serious security holes plus the number of more serious security holes is so large you'll never fix them all.

However, IF your bounty turns up a security hole like Heartbleed THEN the bounty was money well spent.
