Submission + - IBM Offshoring Workers Along With Work 1

tessaiga writes: CNN is reporting that IBM is offering its laid-off employees new jobs in India, China, Russia, and other countries. The article describes "Project Match", an effort to relocate qualifying workers to countries where IBM identifies as having "growth opportunities". IBM has laid off over 4,000 workers since January of this year. What makes for a qualifying worker? A hint comes from an IBM company document quoted by CNN: "Only satisfactory performers who are willing to work on local terms and conditions should pursue the jobs."

Submission + - IBM to Laid Off Employees: Offshore Yourself! (infoworld.com) 1

snydeq writes: "IBM has been offering employees some rather objectionable layoff choices as it continues its quiet layoff of thousands of employees, according to various insider reports. Employees considered 'satisfactory performers' are being given the option to relocate to 'growth markets where your skills are in demand.' Those who choose to offshore themselves to India, China, Russia, or beyond do so in lieu of severance, and must agree to work on local terms and conditions, including pay. 'If you take the job, IBM won't pay severance but will pay "a portion" (undefined) of your relocation expenses, including tax and visa services," said one IBM'er who declined a job in Malaysia due to the accompanying two-thirds paycut. 'Not a good deal for many of my colleagues who have 20-25 weeks of severance under their agreement.' Meanwhile, some IBM workers who still have jobs are being given a very tough choice: Move across the country at your own expense, or get fired with no severance package. The cuts at IBM are being done amid strong financial results."

I don't necessarily sympathize with the Republicans, but I still live and work in the United States. It's my home!

What would you do in his position?

Journal Journal: Maxed Out 3

Well, it finally happened. It has been my habit to add all of HanzoSan's Freaks to my Friends list. But now, the number of HanzoSan's Freaks is in excess of 200, which is the maximum number of Relationships one user can have. Looks like I'm all maxed out on Friends.

Over 200 Freaks! What kind of a jerk does it take to make over 200 enemies on an online forum? This must be some kind of a record! Is there anyone else on Slashdot who has earned this many Freaks?
