Media, as in news media is the problem. Every time a fucked up nutcase goes out on a killing spree, there is non stop media coverage. News media glorifies the murderers yet no one remembers one of the victims. So the next nutcase sitting at home watching this is probably thinking: Man, I could do the same thing and the world will remember me!

Windows 8 is a very disciplined direction. Doesn't mean: a good direction, but a unified GUI and an answer to ARM-based tablets was the strategy. Good? The market will decide.

Unified GUI?

Ahahhahahaahhahahahaahhaaahahaha!

Oh wait ... Unified GUI? ... AAAAhahahahahahahahahahah!

Man, fire up start screen, start typing 'print'. Nothing found. Go to desktop, go to control panel, in the search box type 'print'. Oh wow, it found printers and devices. Half of things on W8 are found in one place, half in another. Does that sounds unified? The amount of annoying crap in W8 is astounding. Open Office on W8 RT, and try to save a file. Good luck if you got fat fingers, UI elements are from desktop. Oops? Oh and don't even get me started on Windows Server 2012 UI.

W8 is a Frankenstein OS, it is as far from Unified GUI as you can get.

Disclosure: I use Windows Server 2012 as my desktop.

Game sales are down for consoles maybe. With a bit of googling, you might find silly things like NVidia's 23% revenue growth attributed to PC gaming alone. And of course that Steam has 100% sales growth in 2012 over 2011. Oh and Diablo III selling like hotcakes. But hey, this profit growth is all because DRM is making people NOT buy games right?

I don't think there a lot of people activating phones by installing ROMS. Even Cyanogen, the most popular ROM has only 2.7 million total installs. That's what? 3 days worth of Android activations. A drop in the bucket. The average user has no knowledge in flashing ROMS and installing even factory images.
