On a gun that decides when it's time to fire, I hope there's a cancel button.
I also bet there's someone that gets this, pulls the trigger at a picture of someone they hate, and then leaves the gun lying around their house. It wouldn't work, not that it wouldn't be fun to try.
The abort would be when you release the trigger.
Is it me, or do reaction wheels seem to be the most failure prone part of space telescopes?
I do not wear any watch, I have a smartphone that does this job fine.
You wear a smartphone?
In my first world western democratic country, we call that illegal corruption, and will prosecute that politician to the fullest extent of the law. ( and have done so in the past, hence this country has one of the lowest levels of corruption in the world )
Just because you are used to corruption in the USA, doesn't mean its like that the world over.
You actually *dont* have to put up with political corruption and bribery in America. It is actually OK to protest against corruption. Seriously. ( im not trolling )
" Was this bribery? Of course not! "
Of course? How is it obvious that it is not bribery? I dont see anything obvious as to why it is not.
Giving a politician money for the purpose of influencing said politicians support of legislation is corruption, fair and square.
There are no ifs or buts, it is corruption.
And this corruption is so widespread, and so accepted ( and even expected ), that the American people think nothing of it, and accept it as simply a part of doing politics.
Leader of the Free World my ass.
I live in a first world western democracy, and here, this sort of corruption is illegal. Why is this allowed in the USA?
This is why having humans onboard beats robotics. An event like this on an unmanned craft could be crippling. With humans onboard, it was quickly found and fixed.
Though it is only a question of time before robotics will be dexterous and smart enough to go out and replace a broken module like what just happened. In the meantime, Humans +1 | Robots +0.
How would the Onion look then?
Smugly pleased.
There are actually a few positive effects nicotine possesses, the negative effects of smoking are mediated by the oxidation products of cigarettes..
Don't forget the addictive nature of nicotine.
No, Dont mod parent up, This is Slashdot, not some fucking American political bullshit discussion site.
Slashdot should be:
NEWS FOR NERDS, STUFF THAT MATTERS!
Slashdot has become awash with political crap. Let's return to a site for nerds, stuff that matters. Not stuff that rallies the libertarians and the collectivists, okay?
I would mod you up even more for your insightful words, but you are already at +5.
Slashdot, *please* go back to News for Nerds, Stuff that Matters!
And while im in rant mode, *please* realise that not all of us are Americans, Stuff that Matters shouldnt be about some democrat vs republican bullshit.
Fingers.
10GB of online storage completely free? What, like services like Dropbox, Google Drive, Mega etc?
Why go through all the hassle of encrypting your data as a QR code video, when you could just upload your encrypted files to one of these fine services?
"This can only end poorly for FB"
You say it like its a bad thing.
Even funnier if they're still around for the aftermath of the joke. Don't decapitate --- just a precise shot of paralytic to the top of the spinal cord, followed by a photorealistic rendering (through the goggles) of the goggles being removed... to reveal the severed-head's view of the "real world" simulation room. Dim lights to black; leave them there to contemplate.
Why go through the hassle of that. If you *truly* want your 'victim' to think they are going to die, and go through what it actually feels like to die, but bring them back from the very brink of death, waterboard them.
Dont believe me? Ask the CIA, they know all about it.
