Comment Procedural worlds from the creator of Bryce. (Score 2, Interesting) 160

Amazing things can be done today with mathematics.

Take a look to this http://www.uisoftware.com/Voyager/

Those are completely procedural worlds from the creator of Bryce.
It's based on Artmatics that can be used to generate fantastic textures and then there is a ray tracer that can use ray casting to create the landscape.
The latest move of Eric Wenger was to use that to generate procedural cities and the result to me is fantastic.

Submission + - My PC is talking to thepiratebay.org, why ? 1

FraKtus writes: "My latest scan of my brave home PC suddenly start showing that I have a few parasites in my machine. One of those is ZenoSearch and I was curious to see what kind of activities over the wire is performed by this bot. So I fired Wireshark and started logging my traffic. I was surprised to see that my machine send regular request to the thepiratebay.org, login with a funky user name badfood / qweqweqweasdasdasd ... So what is the deal for a torrent web site such as thepirateay.org of having zombies sending useless request to their web site ? Just increasing their bandwidth bill ?

Another url visited is url.adtrgt.com that is connected to MyGeek.com..."

Submission + - How Engineering Students Protest the War ;) (youtube.com)

Sir_Poolie writes: "Linux and microcontrollers in politics? Here in this video a gluttonous engineering student still in the laboratory after 11:45 PM takes a creative approach by putting together a modest hardware hack — in hope of sending an urgent political message (LOL). Uses various prototyping boards & GNU/Linux — hooray! The clip's audio features priceless electronica-esque analog synthesizer work performed by Lasse Viklund."
It's funny. Laugh.

Submission + - Pac man meets Zork

Kalak writes: Combine Pac Man, Zork, and some alcohol, and you get a text adventure version of Pac Man called Pac-Txt. It's an amusing way to kill some time and feel like you're in series of long corridors. Some credit was also given to the Balmer Peak

Journal Journal: Sony PSP woes

This is my first article on Slashdot, so please forgive me if its not up to the usual standards..

Anyways, I'm posting to let people know how Sony is still screwing its customers. I have been a fan of Sony electronics for years. My first purchase being one of their Net Mini Disc players back when they were first coming out. I loved how I could rip my CD collection & have 3 or 4 discs with lots of songs on it. My latest purchases now being their PS3 & the PSP.

Internet2 Taken Out by Stray Cigarette 315

AlHunt writes "A fire started by a homeless man knocked out service between Boston and New York on the experimental Internet2 network Tuesday night. Authorities say the fire, which also disrupted service on the Red Line subway, started around 8:20 p.m. when a homeless man tossed a lit cigarette. The cigarette landed on a mattress, which ignited and led to a two-alarm fire."

Submission + - Linux: A Japanese Penguin

reporter writes: "According to a report by Reuters, Tokyo is aggressively promoting Linux in all branches of the Japanese government. The report states, "The central government has set aside 1.25 trillion yen ($10.40 billion) for spending on information systems in the fiscal 2007 budget, and the figure is expected to reach around 2 trillion yen when including local governments. That would be around roughly 15 percent of IT spending for all of Japan , including private-sector corporations, the Nikkei said.""
