Study Finds Most Would Become Supervillians If Given Powers 419

It probably comes as no surprise, but researchers have found that most of us would gladly put on a mask and fight do-gooders if given super powers. From the article: "But power also acts like strong cologne that affects both the wearer and those within smelling distance, Galinsky noted. The person gains an enhanced sense of their importance, and other people may regard them with greater respect as well as extend leniency toward their actions. That combination makes for an easy slide into corruption."

How do we know piracy took a chunk of sales from this movie, or any movie, or any song or video game, for that matter? Intellectual property that has been pirated does not directly equal a lost sale. Often, the pirates were not going to pay either way. They were not going to go see this movie, nor buy the cd, nor buy the video game. Did they get to enjoy something for free? Yes. But that is not a direct correlation to lost profits.

No, I couldn't disagree more. This was the ultimate opportunity to use The Cake Is A Lie joke. From now on, the joke is too old, but this one final, perfect, use is not only acceptable, but, I daresay, required.

"The Pie Is A Perjury" will henceforward be the next Internet meme to be bandied about by every would-be BOFH with nothing better to do that spend hours on Slashdot waiting for an opportunity to get his karma back up with a +5 Funny.

While I would give the same advice, let's not forget that ultimately the child's safety comes down to one or two people: the parents. They will be the ones who will suffer the most if something bad happens to their child. So, the OP doesn't trust his school system to get his daughter on the right bus and wants to take extra precautions. I don't blame him for that. Some of us would react differently, but to each his own. I would probably change school districts. If that isn't an option move to a new town or city. If that isn't an option, go to every school board meeting until everyone is aware how serious you are about your child's safety, and the other children in the district. Bad things could have happened if the daughter had been dropped off in a completely foreign location and tried to find her own home, or panicked, etc. So maybe this parent isn't so over-the-top in his decision on how to protect his child.

How about the obvious? Sometimes, babies need to eat wherever they are, regardless of social setting. No one NEEDS to have sex at any particular time. And, I'll add that if you think watching a couple have sex is as equally disconcerting as a mother breastfeeding, you may want to move to the nearest monastery. Nothing there should ever disconcert you.

Bonewalker writes: Over at Popzara.com there is an interesting exclusive interview with Douglas Pereira, the blogger who initially released images from the upcoming Capcom title Street Fighter 4. Apparently, EGM, owned by Ziff-Davis, wasn't too happy about that because they were supposed to launch the initial unveiling and accompanying imagery. Needless to say, Mr. Pereira doesn't divulge his source(s), but it is interesting to note the knee-jerk reaction by EGM editor-in-chief Dan Hsu, claiming that Mr. Pereira must have hacked his way in or used an old password to ftp in and steal the images. Here is the initial story with the images in question.

Submission + - University of Kansas will not forward RIAA letters

Bonewalker writes: Looks like the University of Kansas may not be as pro-RIAA (or anti-student) as initially assumed last week from this recent Slashdot story. Of course, this doesn't make that "one-strike" policy any less flawed, but it shows that they aren't simply throwing their students under the RIAA bus, as one poster put it. As an alum, I am happy to see this. I wonder if they needed to get a story like this out to help combat the backlash and stigma from that previous article, though?
