That would be a clear and definite restriction on the right to resell (Specifically, the deliberate crippling of products to disrupt the standard commercial rights of the purchasers) which would near certainly be a case rapidly lost by the crippling companies in the EU.

American courts, somewhat trickier to call. Precedent, law and logic all say this is unacceptable behaviour, but it's unacceptable behaviour by a rich corporation, so...

Probably. As I understand it, the test only reveals that it was 29% horse DNA, not 29% horse meat.

Actually, it was 29% of the burger patty, by weight, determined to consist of meat containing horse DNA rather than the expected cow DNA.

In China right now.
Chinese nationals require a visa to exit the country, unless willing to take the cargo container trip out of Wenzhou.
This visa can be obtained by legitimate means only in rare circumstances.
If you actually want to get it you need legitimate reasons and a moderate bribe (8 to 12 thousand yuan) or a major bribe (20 to 50 thousand yuan) and suitable connections.

Us foreign types are thankfully able to leave at will.

Slight side note there. The average life expectancy may have been 35, but remove all the infant deaths (those dying aged 0-2 years old) and the average bounces way up into the mid-60's, not so massively different to today's.
