I'm too busy to research a timeline right now, but my understanding was that for DeLay to have a shot at returning to his leadership post next year, the House needed to remain out of session until his case came to trial at the very end of January. If the PATRIOT Act must now be addressed in January, I take it that the House must come back into session sometime in mid- to late January, sometime before DeLay is set to go to trial.

While others have noted the general sleaziness of having a lobbyist who admits he's not the most qualified candidate for the job working as a part-time $100k/year consultant for a federal agency, I'm most intrigued by one specific part of Freedman's resume:
