Conservatives are for equal treatment. For instance, a law against sleeping on the sidewalk should be enforced equally on both millionaires and homeless vagrants.

Until that "equal treatment" extends to marriage. Then they suddenly oppose equality.

Equality? Marriage? Marriage is a social and societal construct which is granted certain collective rights and privileges in exchange for some loss of rights and freedoms. The governments roll is supposed to only recognize marriage. It did not define traditional marriage in the first place. If the government wanted to create a civil legal construct like say "civil union" to include non-traditional marriage then they could do that but to suggest that individual jurisdictions have the right to redefine marriage to include same sex couples is preposterous. You cannot change what you did not own in the first place. Marriage is a construct of all of human society and is not at the whim of any single government authority. You are not any less equal if you remain unmarried, in fact your individual freedom of movement is greater.

Still a fucking miracle with Harper and the current CRTC. The major players had a lot of victories in recent years.

Sorry but how is it a miracle? Have you not seen the commercials from the Harper government about changing the wireless industry in favour of the consumers? Did previous governments even attempt to reform the CRTC or how the wireless industry treats consumers? The answer is no so why the anti-harper rhetoric? Previous governments either did nothing to improve the industry for the benefit of consumers or made it worse by appointing industry cronies to the CRTC board. If you want to blame why it was bad, look at previous liberal governments.

It seems that if you call someone a "wuss" for using a community page to troll and make anti-christian and anti-jewish statements instead of their personal account, you will get banned from posting and liking for 3 days if the person in question identifies as gay as well as deleting your relatively inoffensive remark/challenge to use a personal account instead so that we can block them. However, if you report one of those same people for hate speech against a religious or ethnic group, nothing will happen to them and the comment will not be deleted regardless of how many times people report their hate speech.

I think iOS updates have to jump through the same carrier hoops as Android. The difference is that Apple only has a small number of devices that need to be tested so it's faster and easier for them to roll out updates.

I am sure carriers are given beta testing access but I doubt they have a veto on updates because the update, barring hardware differences on models, is the same for all iOS devices. So the core of the OS is the same on a Verizon, Sprint or AT&T phone but only differs in the cell radio firmware portion.

Google doesn't make the version of Android that goes out on e.g. Samsung phones. Google can patch 4.3 ll they want, but it's up to Samsung to take the patch, implement it, test it on all their devices, then get blessing from the various carriers to send it out. Given there's still people out there with S3s (and probably S2s) there's no chance they're going to put the effort into it and instead tell people to get the shiny new S5.

Should not matter. If they are patching the core, the core should be available for updating by google directly by alerting the user of a needed patch. The customization should not be touching the core of the OS.

Hindsight is 20/20 but they could have copied the idea from Apple where a process would periodically check for vulnerabilities in the background. They could patch the vulnerable component through a google updater on the phone. I don't think most vulnerabilities would require a new ROM for the phone.
