Comment Re:Did they put a seperate door for the pilots? (Score 1) 278

Yeah. Because pilots are superhuman and never have to take a piss or eat something.

Piddle packs and packed lunches. Port-o-john & shower curtain for sit-down work. If we as a society require the kind of security that our leaders profess we need, then our airframe designers must make room for accommodating these features. They are good enough for C-130 aircrew.

Comment How will this slow down investment in BB networks? (Score 3, Insightful) 200

I have been a subscriber to Armstrong OneWire for cable internet for the last 5 years and the bandwidth has not changed at all. You would think that the price would drop, but it has remained constant, too.

Where I live in Ohio there is no incentive to invest in BB networks. There is no real competition.

(a Thai joke)

I was a language instructor as a SSgt in the USAF at the defense language institute Korean school in Monterey, CA. One of my students, an Army Special Forces SFC with Thai language experience (I have none), was participating in a creative role play involving numbers and vocabulary commonly used with numbers.

He put on his army trench coat (class b uniform day) stood in front of the class, and proceeded to act like a guy who sells watches on the street. His sales pitch (for a tv commercial, I guess) went fairly well until he started to give his 555-nnnn phone number in Thai rather than Korean.

The other students an I who had been concentrating keenly to figure out just what the hell the student SFC had been saying were totally taken by surprise by what we heard and a good laugh was had by all. The SFC was clearly working hard to communicate his free-form message (compared to many other lessons which concentrate on formatted language transactions such as greetings, weather reports, etc.), and it was quite a scene when he slipped into another language.

Good times.

Submission + - Apple Finally Opens iTunes Plus, iTunes U

jwisser writes: "Apple has finally started selling higher-quality, DRM-less music in a new service called iTunes Plus. The selection is currently limited, but as more small labels sign up for the service, the offerings will hopefully increase. iTunes has also opened iTunes U to the general public, enabling everyone running iTunes to download lectures from schools like Stanford and Berkeley. iTunes Plus requires the new iTunes 7.2 to use. Non-iTunes links to Apple's press releases are here (iTunes Plus) and here (iTunes U)."

Submission + - Universal OS games?

QueePWNzor writes: Like the majority of people looking at this (I think), I play PC games. But fewer and fewer games work between multiple OS's, particularly Linux. But now that NeverwinterNights 2 isn't universal OS like the first, I'm pretty sure DirectX has sent all the good multi-platform games to hell (or Warrens-of-the-Damned, take your pick.)
What's left? Free-Wine I'd only trust to play pac-man. Few games are OpenGL, on the grounds that "only Windows people play games, and DirectX looks cool." The PS3 is the only system that uses high-powered OpenGL, but I'm not about to spend $500-600 for a system that only has $60+ games, requires a huge TV to look good, and takes almost as much power as the whole country of Mongolia (no offence, Mongolians.)
So I'd like to know: What good games are there that Microsoft hasn't killed? (Okay, so that's like asking how many dinosaurs aren't extinct. Bob from Dilbert not included.)
If anybody knows any games that work on Windows/Linux or Mac/Linux, please say. I would prefer that it runs on all three, but there are no games I know of that are sold for Linux so...
