irabinovitch writes: "SCALE 6x, the 2008 Southern California Linux Expo will be held in Los Angeles this weekend (Feb 8-10). This will be the 6th annual SCALE conference. Keynote speakers will include Jono Bacon (Ubuntu) and Stormy Peters (OpenLogic). The event will include 5 speaker tracks with over 80 speakers. The expo floor will be packed with open source commercial and non-profit exhibitors, including Silicon Mechanics, Novell, IBM, GroundWork, Postgres, Gentoo and more! Additionally Friday February 8th will mark the return of several mini-conferences including: Women in Open Source (WIOS), Open Source Software In Education, and DOHCS — Demonstrating Open Source Health Care Solutions."

Submission + - SCALE Announces Half Day Tutorial Sessions (socallinuxexpo.org)

irabinovitch writes: "SCALE is proud to announce they've partnered with LOPSA, the League of Professional System Administrators, to create "SCALE University". SCALE University will conduct two half-day classes on Friday, February 8th at the So Cal Linux Expo. The morning class will be "Open-Source Email Systems: One Approach to Spam Fighting", taught by Austin Godber, a platform engineer for JumpBox. The afternoon tutorial is "Introduction to Virtualization on Linux with Xen"and will be conducted by Chris St. Pierre, a Unix system administrator at Nebraska Wesleyan University. Registration is available online at the SCALE website. SCALE will be held Feb 8 — 10, at the Los Angeles Airport Westin. In addition to the tutorials there will be over 60 speaker sessions, many evening events, and a full expo floor throughout the weekend."

The community run linux and open-source conference will hold its 6th annual event on Feb 8 — 10, 2008 in Los Angeles, CA. In addition to registration, the first set of speakers and exhibitors was announced. Exhibits will include demos from groups such as IBM, Novell, Plain Black, Debian, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Gentoo, and others. Those interested in speaking still have time to submit an abstract to the call for papers which will close on November 30th. With a strong speaker and exhibitor line up as well as an expanded selection of mini-conferences, SCALE 6X should be the best year yet!"

Hear speakers from Red Hat, Google, SuSE/Novell, OLPC project, MySQL, Sofware Freedom Law Center, Linden Labs, OSTG, Linux Fund, over 40 speakers, 42 exhibitors per day and several exhibitors will be actively recruiting. Admission and parking are free for both days, April 28th and 29th in Bellingham Wash. This is a huge free Linux/OSS community event, don't miss it.

Submission + - SCALE Announces Conference On Women in Open Source

irabinovitch writes: The Southern California Linux Expo announces plans to host a 'Women In Open Source' Mini-conference. The goals of the conference are to encourage women to use technology and open source and free software, and to explore the obstacles that women face in breaking into the technology industry. The audience will be those women who may have an interest in technology, but hesitate to get into it because they believe it's a male-only club. The conference will be held in conjunction with the Fifth Annual So Cal Linux Expo. The Women in Open Source mini-conference will be held February 9th, 2007 at the Westin LAX Hotel.

Those interested in presenting should submit an abstract before the November 20th deadline. The call for papers can be found online. SCALE invites the open-source community to submit presentation proposals at all levels from beginer tutorials to advanced workshops. SCALE 5x will be held on Feb 9 — 11 at the Los Angeles Airport Westin Hotel."
