Opera Launches Facial Gesture Capability 199

cstrep writes "Eight years ago, Opera introduced Mouse Gestures as a way to speed up your interaction with the browser, and focus on what's important: Content. In 2005, Voice Navigation was introduced, and more recently we've worked with Nintendo to create a browser that takes full advantage of the 'Wiimote' and later, the touchscreen in the DSi. Today Opera introduces Face Gestures, a revolutionary technology designed to make interacting with Opera easier on computers with cameras. Face Gestures lets you perform frequent browsing operations with natural and easy to make face gestures. By using an internal technology dubbed 'Face Observation Opera Language,' we are able to recognize pre-determined facial expressions and match them to commands on the Opera browser."

chrisarn writes: "A new social network site called me2everyone is trying to attract a large user base by giving away stocks in the company. The site doesn't even have any functions yet, only a program giving away free shares in the company. But they have a new twist to viral marketing. They offer members 250 shares in the company just for joining and another 500 shares per member you get to sign up. And the membership is free. At a face value of 0.001 GBP per share that is 0.25 GBP for joining and 0.50 GBP per member you get to sign up. Sure thats not worth the effort, but their ambition is to get en active user base in the millions of users by 2012 and their own estimate is that the shares would be worth 0.58 GBP by then. That translates to 145 GBP for signing up and 290 GBP per user who signed up. This is the first time i have noticed anything like this. And the big questions is, is this a huge scam or a smart way of gathering a lot of users from day 0? A bit more information about them can be found in this blog entry and over here at profilesblog"

rudeboy1 writes: "Lars Ulrich, drummer for Metallica, and long time opponent of file sharing admitted to 'pirating' his own album, Death Magnetic last year. "I sat there myself and downloaded 'Death Magnetic' from the Internet just to try it," he said. "I was like, 'Wow, this is how it works.' I figured if there is anybody that has a right to download 'Death Magnetic' for free, it's me." Is it too much to hope for that the RIAA catches wind of this and serves him with a lawsuit?"

emad writes: Last week, a patch and sample exploit were posted to the djbdns mailing list concerning a bug that allowed subdomain administrators to take over parent domains when served from the same tinydns/axfrdns servers. Today, Dan Bernstein acknowledged the security hole, recommended users to install the patch, and awarded $1000 to Matthew Dempsky for publishing the first verifiable security hole in djbdns. In the words of Dan Kaminsky (of recent DNS security fame): "However, Dempsky's bug in djb's tinydns is way more surprising, if only because...holy crap, he pulled an exploitable scenario out of THAT?!"
