Coming from what I know - because I own a 3GS - iOS 5 is great.

Also, coming from what I know, since I was forced to do Android dev work, is that, other than Nexus phones, the official upgrade path is non-existent. Of course, yes, there is always Cyanogenmod. Which would be fine; I'll even say that I would probably be happy with an Android, since I could do Cyanogen. However, a lot of these consumers couldn't even program a VCR, let alone install custom firmware. Most don't even know Cyanogen exists.

Android would be a lot more effective in the long-run if the Nexus phones were the only official models.

The few places that still use flash for video are coming around. Plus, there are far fewer ads when you don't have flash. Also, it's a tablet; it has an on-screen keyboard. I don't know what "proper keyboard" means, but I assume you mean physical. In that case, you can just buy any Bluetooth kbd or Apple's. Still, if you want a physical keyboard, a tablet probably isn't what you want.

I guess the disappointment is mostly on my end. I'm a huge Linux user and fan of OSS in-general. I'm hoping regular consumers don't associate Android with Linux and think all OSS is disappointing.

I think the issue is n00bs will try Linux for the first time, fail, and think it's no good. Ubuntu, etc will have to plaster "turn-off SecureBoot" all over their site. Of course, like most BIOSes, it will be poorly translated, and you'll have to hunt all over for the right setting. People are always saying how closed Apple is on this site, but they specifically wrote a BIOS emulator so you could run Win/Linux on a Mac. Apple will be the most open hardware maker after this!
