Maybe I wasn't clear, I mean they fundamentally value the society over the individual more than Westerners. What you describe with a car hitting a person and delivering aid is perfectly consistent with that. What degree that is learning or innate is not clear. And I think you are projecting admiration on them because otherwise more people would act in such a way that they so admired (according to you), and then you wouldn't have an example like this to provide.

Or...if you have talked to any native Chinese in some depth you might realize that a lot of them actually have different values than Westerners about social responsibility and such. Far beyond what we are accustomed to with our emphasis on individuality, etc. Their system of government didn't develop in a vacuum and was certainly informed by their culture. So, I think you're right that your comment is a bit of a kneejerk response that assumes their authoritarian government has a hand in EVERYTHING.

That said, I would also assume that if his books were promoting pro-capitalist or anti-government ideas they would have been censored immediately, so maybe we're missing all the "Westernized" Chinese sci-fi books because of this...

The film was actually a pretty good satire and action flick (a la Robocop) if you ignore the book, and I agree it should not profess to be based on it. I don't have a better idea for a title offhand for it though; maybe "Interplanetary Troopers", "Space Troopers"? Nah, Starship Troopers just has a better ring to it... Anyway, a more faithful adaptation would have been so much different and required a substantially larger budget I suspect...

Now that you're older you should reread them. I've only read a few including this, Starship Troopers, and Strangers in a Strange Land, and there is a lot more than just a fun story going on in them, and I think a good case can be made that the stories actually subserve their underlying themes (WHATEVER they were).

I've never seen any of this directors movies. What make him qualified to work on this?

He's not Ridley Scott, and therefore Harrison Ford would potentially be able to put up with him long enough to make another Blade Runner movie. Supposedly, a principal reason why this movie has been delayed so long was because of how much Harrison hated working with Ridley.

Full disclosure: It's been many years since I tried FreeBSD, but I rather liked it for the light server install I made.

Anyway, you make it sound like the participants of the BSD forums were maliciously not helping you, but the reality was probably more like they simply didn't have enough people (or any!) with your hardware combination. This may be a valid concern, especially for a company, but who thinks FreeBSD is trying to realistically compete head-to-head with RHEL (and by extension CentOS) especially in regards to support?

Actually, you're the one engaging in misdirection. All it takes is a few minutes of reading pol on either chan site to see that the boards are primarily made up of white supremacist posters, and it only takes a glance at the board listing of 8chan to see that they harbour actual pedophiles as well.

The /pol/s are troll boards and if you spent anytime there you would know it. It's not fucking stormfront.

However, do keep calling people "sjw" when they spout the truth -it helps people to realize that you GG scum lie to yourselves as well as to the rest of us.

I call you sjw when you conspire to flagrantly slander others using an "us" vs "them" approach just to justify your ego. That's what makes the ANTI-GG people the real fascists.

Also keep in mind that Tim Cook is brilliant too. There probably isn't a better tech CEO anywhere when it comes to hardball negotiations, logistical strategy and planning.

I'm genuinely interested, but what evidence is there of that? So far, my impressions have been he's the Steve Ballmer of Apple. That is, not the visionary but trying to maintain the status quo and futilely trying to break into other markets. Maybe that's enough to be more brilliant than other tech CEOs though (e.g., the MS trojan CEO at Nokia that tanked them)?

Notorious 8chan Board Has History Wiped After Federal Judge's Doxing 240

AmiMoJo writes On Monday, imageboard site 8chan's "baphomet" subboard, an Internet destination known for hosting aggressive "doxing" posts, received a major history wipe the day after one of its users posted the personal information of a federal judge in the Silk Road case. A follow-up post by baphomet's "Board Owner" account stated that "HW," a reference to site founder Frederick "hotwheels" Brennan, deleted "the SSN posts" and told the baphomet board founder, previously identified via an associated Twitter handle as Benjamin Biddix, to "lay low." The same day baphomet's "Board Owner" announced a "doxing for hire" service due to "running low on funds."
