If you trust essentially your entire business exclusively to another business, you are foolish. They could fold, go out of business, change business model or be raided and shout down by the US government. Have a backup somewhere else, period. Or look at the failed companies and projects that didn't... Code Spaces anyone?

If the site is one I may want to see again, I will e-mail thewebmaster to let them know about the adblock "allow inoffensive adds" feature and how to get whitelisted. Some have ignored me, and I have ignored them. Some have responded negativly, and I found other websites. But some have responeded very positivly and thanked me for the info and link. Those sites, I support.

No. The internet was implemented by the federal government, funded by citizen taxes, and later extended as part of the communications infrastructure. The internet was not invented to serve businesses, it was invented to serve the citizens.

And pre-1913 we had no income taxes. When you get to todays world, let us know.

Comment Re:No Advertising does not power the Internet. (Score 3, Insightful) 418

Do you remember the Internet before advertising? I do. It was mostly educational, and technical. It was also low bandwidth. The modern Internet is a lot of expensive to produce and deliver content. That money has to come from somewhere, and Universities are not financing it all like they used to.
