Comment contradictory (Score 1) 471

the quote 'in societies where many people believe in hell compared to those where more people believed in heaven." is contradictory. in what religeon(s) do they preach in only one or the other ? afaik, if you believe in one, you have to also believe in the other. as in, 'if you don't make it to heaven, where do you go " its sad that people don't realise there is a way to build a heaven on earth, and it only takes honorable measures to acheive it. not greed.

Optimizing Linux Use On a USB Flash Drive? 137

Buckbeak writes "I like to carry my Linux systems around with me, on USB flash drives. Typically, SanDisk Cruzers or Kingston HyperX. I encrypt the root partition and boot off the USB stick. Sometimes, the performance leaves something to be desired. I want to be able to do an 'apt-get upgrade' or 'yum update' while surfing but the experience is sometimes painful. What can I do to maximize the performance of Linux while running off of a slow medium? I've turned on 'noatime' in the mount options and I don't use a swap partition. Is there any way to minimize drive I/O or batch it up more? Is there any easy way to run in memory and write everything out when I shut down? I've tried both EXT2 and EXT3 and it doesn't seem to make much difference. Any other suggestions?"

in their statistica, they measure the amount of water in the air. and if...if..we suck up all the air's water, will we make this planet like mars. if....if..enough of these were being used, and everyone on the planet, was to take and store water (again, future, in a haste like thought) would we see the end of free water? if..and again, i stress "if"...we dried out the moisture in the air, would our landscape suffer... before anyone flames out, i want to let you know, i already know all h20 has been used over and over, but i just wonder, about prolonged use, or living in a climate (even our houses) that has its water removed...
